The Nigerian authorities must investigate the reckless use of fire arms by the military that killed a girl in Maiduguri Borno state.
The 14-years-old secondary school student was killed on Saturday 4 April after being hit by a stray bullet while inside her home. The fatal shot was reportedly fired by military personnel engaged in celebratory gunfire during a wedding ceremony at a nearby event center.
A family friend of the victim said:
“She (the deceased) lived in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) quarters with her family and was inside her home when the tragedy occurred. She had just finished applying henna for her mother and herself, joyfully preparing for a family wedding scheduled for that same day.”
While her funeral was held this morning at Maiduguri graveyard, her family and friends are left seeking answers for a death that was entirely preventable.
Amnesty International calls for a transparent, impartial and effective investigation of the incident to safeguard lives and ensure justice.

Ibn Rajab said: "The one who misses the planting season cannot expect to reap the harvest." Ramadan is almost over. The last ten nights are the harvest season. Everything you've planted this month - the discipline, the prayers, the hunger - it all culminates now. Don't let the harvest pass you by.
@JokombaJibreel Exactly. This came to mind while I was watching the interview. The diff is that in Qiyama, the questions would be more intense with no room for denial
PRAYER TIMES NIGERIA ( PRAYER TIMES APP) BY SIMWAL JIBRIL
We are proud to announce the launch of Nigeria’s first indigenous prayer app based on the Maliki school of thought — built specifically for Muslims across the country.
Designed with precision and authenticity, this app provides accurate prayer times for all the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria, calculated according to the Maliki fiqh. Whether you are in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, or any remote town, you can rely on correct timings tailored to your exact location.
Even without internet access, the app continues to function seamlessly with its offline prayer time calculation feature, ensuring you never miss your salah wherever you are. With smart location detection, it automatically identifies your position and delivers precise prayer times instantly.
Importantly, the Hijri date in the app is not fixed. It is designed to be adjustable to align with the officially declared date following the sighting of the new crescent and the announcement of the Sultan, ensuring conformity with recognized religious authority in Nigeria.
This milestone would not have been possible without the expertise and dedication of Orygin Solutions @oryginOS , who partnered in developing and bringing this vision to life. Their technical excellence and commitment to innovation helped make this app a reality.
This is more than just a prayer time app — it is a locally built solution for Nigerian Muslims, rooted in our jurisprudential tradition and powered by reliable technology.

A woman from Nigeria returned ₦330 million, which was mistakenly deposited into her bank account.
Hajiya Aisha Isah Yelwa didn't hesitate to contact her bank after noticing the large amount of money in her account.
She said, "I feel good returning the money. I am a mother, and my children's future means more to me than anything,"
"Even with all my financial challenges, I don't want to eat what does not belong to me."
Aisha has been praised for her honesty but to her, she did exactly what a Muslim is supposed to do.
May Allah bless her for her integrity.

I think the late Buhari’s family, or more specifically his wife, leaned more towards a modern or Eurocentric conception of family than our traditional understanding of it in seeking superior priority at his table. I do not entirely blame them. The difficulty, however, lies in the fact that the kinship between a man and his siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles often occupies a special place, especially where there is a shared history of sacrifice. No wife or child can come between such bonds.
In many African families, the wife is seen as a visitor who must be offered a seat at the table, with an underlying fear that her stay may be temporary, whether by divorce or separation, or that her loyalties may tilt more towards her original family, her parents and siblings, than her husband’s. This perception often inspires a quiet Cold War in mature families, or a full-blown conflict where the man fails to set clear boundaries for both sides.
Malam Mamman Daura, beyond being Buhari’s nephew, stood by him at his lowest points and made personal sacrifices to hold things together during his incarceration, including taking care of his family. This is a relationship that no wife, however charming or domineering, could fracture. Much of the friction arose from several parties not understanding their place at the table, and the consequences are now evident.
The African family system does not begin and end with one’s spouse and children. It begins with allegiance to parents and close relatives who were present long before a spouse and children came into the picture. This reality is important for all parties to acknowledge when asserting their sense of entitlement. For instance, one should never question a spouse for providing support to their siblings.
My only real concern is Aisha’s confession that Buhari sometimes locked his room out of fear that she was trying to kill him. Any marriage should end amicably long before it reaches such a point, whether that fear was legitimate or not. The fear that one’s spouse could kill them is not a trivial sentiment; it does not arise out of thin air. No one should remain in a marriage that creates such a climate of fear, even if they share a thousand children together.
