It is easy for us to say populist things like what Reverend Father Mbaka and some Obidients said about Governors, Senators and Representatives earning ₦60,000. The Governor of Benue State is also a Catholic Reverend Father, like Mbaka. Is he paying himself minimum wage? What about Governor Alex Otti? Is he not using long convoys? What about Labour Party Legislators? Has any of them rejected their pay?

Nigeria needs practical solutions. Populist platitudes will not work. We cannot have one minimum wage in a country of 220 million people, with standard of living differences. Food, rent and transportation are less expensive in Birnin Kebbi than in Port Harcourt and Lagos.

The solution is to have multiple minimum wages. The Federal Government can pay above ₦60,000, and each state will pay an amount balanced between what they can afford and what is reasonable for the living costs in their states.

But just making wild statements will lead us nowhere and achieve nothing other than helping the maker trend on social media.

Is it not the same Mbaka that lied that then President Jonathan wanted to kill him and subsequently asked Nigerians to vote for Buhari because he is better than Jonathan?

It ie just that Nigerians have such a short memory.
