COMET seeks to represent and honour diverse Muslim communities within the TDSB to ensure Muslim students, families & staff identities are affirmed and valued.
For educators, workplace managers, & anyone wanting to better understand how Islamophobia poisons our societies and can lead to deadly violence like what tragically unfolded in #SanDiego, this Canadian government resource provides universal insights:

Please see this important statement from @MaritStiles on the need for Canada to renew our fight against Islamophobia and hate, in light of the mass murder at the Islamic Center of San Diego.
Our hearts and duaas continue to go out to the community.
It is time we back up our words with action.
Words cannot describe our horror and disgust at what just happened at the Islamic Center of Dan Diego.
While the investigation continues, we understand it is being treated as hate motivated.
The Center, which also includes an Islamic school filled with children, was hosting non-Muslims for education sessions just earlier in the day.
Our hearts and duaas go out to the families of those who were killed, as well as to the communities affected by this mass Islamophobic shooting, now investigated as a hate crime.
In Canada, six worshippers were killed by an Islamophobic gunman in Quebec City nine years ago.
Also, this June, we will be marking five years since a Muslim family was run down and killed on the streets of London, ON by a white nationalist terrorist.
It is time for all leaders to recognize this, work together for a solution, and stop Islamophobia.

The findings of our study, which documented gendered Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism in Ontario schools, points to the need for systemic changes in the province’s schools to better reflect the cultural and religious diversity in these spaces.

Twelve Muslim women just lost their teaching jobs in Quebec because Bill 94 bans all hijabs in public schools.
We are going to court for that.
When asked about this, Quebec lawmaker Bernard Drainville blamed the women themselves.
All because they want to keep their religious identities and faith practices.
This isn’t about “secularism” anymore. It is about the government destroying personal freedoms.
We will keep fighting this fight, in court and beyond.
We are determined to win.
Our Mentorships team is growing.

On January 29th, 2017 congregants took their steps into the Quebec City Mosque as they came for evening prayer. As they stood on the green carpet the gunman took his steps toward the mosque, shooting and killing 6 men and injuring many more. Many in the Muslim community lost their footing that day. The years have gone by but we will never stop stepping forward.
But we need your help.
Join the steps we take in this Green Square Campaign (Jan 29th) to make a lasting impact that our community needs.
This January 29th will be the eight anniversary of the Quebec City mosque shooting which took away six of our brother, while injuring many others.
This January 29th is also the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia in Canada.
We want to thank Mayor @patrickbrownont of the City of Brampton, along with Imam Imran Ally of TARIC Islamic Centre, for joining the NCCM team in recognizing this day.
Action starts with remembrance.
Together, we continue the fight against violent Islamophobia.
