Since 2014, Maldivian taxpayers have been paying for MP Falah’s special health insurance.

Last year, he claimed insurance for 5 people, himself and four dependents (spouse/children under 18).

Falah and each eligible family member receive a healthcare package worth over 1.3 million per person, paid for with public money. It covers all hospitals, clinics and pharmacies across 22 countries in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, including Singapore, Thailand, Oman, the UAE and T��rkiye.

And guess what, whether Falah is ever elected again or not, under the current law taxpayers will continue paying for his health insurance for the rest of his life.

Healthcare is a BASIC human need, not a privilege that should depend on whether someone holds political office. The fundamental principle of a public healthcare system should be equal access based on medical need, not political status.

MPs make the laws. Then they use those laws to give themselves premium healthcare, paid for by you, while ordinary citizens struggle to access medicines, treatment and other basic healthcare.

We have started a commoners’ petition to end this privilege.
