Several months have now passed since the enforced disappearance of (PTM) LeadersNoorullah Tareen and Hanif Pashtin, yet there has been no clear information about their whereabouts, nor have they been presented before any court of law. This is not merely a matter concerning two individuals; it is a grave question of justice, rule of law, and human dignity.

State repression against the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) is not a new phenomenon. Activists and leaders associated with this movement have repeatedly faced harassment, arrests, and systematic attempts to silence their voices. Hanif Pashtin himself previously spent nearly four years imprisoned in the detention facilities of state institutions. Today, reports suggest that he is once again being held in the custody of Military Intelligence (MI).

Under international legal standards, principles of human rights, and even the Constitution and laws of Pakistan, there exists no justification for the enforced disappearance of individuals. If these men are suspected of any crime, they must be produced before a court of law and dealt with through due legal process.

Unfortunately, the reality appears different. Certain powerful generals and institutions continue to act with impunity, disregarding the Constitution, the rule of law, and even basic societal norms. Such actions reflect a troubling environment where force prevails over justice and where lawlessness begins to resemble institutionalized coercion.

Equally regrettable is the criminal silence maintained by many social media users and well-known journalists regarding this matter. When voices that should stand for truth and accountability fall silent, injustice is further emboldened.

We therefore call upon journalists, media organizations, and human rights defenders around the world to raise their voices and stand in solidarity for the recovery and safety of the missing PTM leaders. Defending justice and protecting human rights is a shared responsibility that transcends borders.
