“A single market works best, when rules and standards are predictable and consistent across jurisdictions. The institutions mandated to lead this work already exist, and they deserve our support. The same principle applies to visa policies.
In Rwanda, we removed this particular barrier because we wanted people to visit, connect and discover opportunities. And as we know, it is just the right thing to do. We saw stronger business activity, increased tourism, and expanded air links.
Experience, therefore, shows us that openness and cooperation are powerful drivers of development. No single region has unlocked its potential, while remaining fragmented. Air connectivity opens immense opportunities and possibilities.” President Kagame | African Air Transport Convention & Expo 2026
In its attempt to promote false allegations against Rwanda, @Global_Witness manipulates the report’s cover image, which was taken by @Camillaffont, journalist at @AFP based in #Kinshasa, who travelled to #Rubaya in March 2025. (Image #1 below). This photo shows two armed M23 (ARC) soldiers in the Rubaya area.
The description below the photo is false as it does not show, as it claims, "M23 soldiers at the mining pits in Rubaya." What we see are not mining pits but an inactive mining site, kilometers away from the mine where coltan is being extracted. I visited the active coltan mines in Rubaya in February 2025 (around the same time when this photo was taken by Camille Laffont). An active mine, every day of the week, has thousands of miners extracting coltan that are highly visible from that distance. A simple picture comparison between an active and non-active extraction site can show the manipulation here done by GW.
Through this image selection and description manipulation, GW is claiming that M23 soldiers are controlling the mines, forcing people to extract coltan, (and then smuggling the minerals to Rwanda), as well as, overlooking the coltan mining business, while threatening and beating the miners (as the rest of the description of the GW interactive map image is claiming).
Yet, #AFC_M23 has issued a statement (Image #3 and #4 below), published by its spokesperson @LawrenceKanyuka on his official X account on May 7, 2024, in which it is ordered that all "members, officers, and political and military personnel of the AFC" are "prohibited" from "exploitation and commercialization of mineral substances identified in the liberated territories."
The two soldiers seen in the cover photo are located far from the mining site and are securing the surrounding zone from potential attacks by #FDLR_Wazalendo and other sources of insecurity that Rubaya residents were subjected to before. The Rubaya residents, and miners alike, have confirmed to us during our visit to Rubaya, that they finally feel safe since the arrival of #AFC_M23, and that they can now do their mining activities without feeling at risk.
In addition, as ordered by the Coordinator of AFC, @CNangaa in the signed statement, children are prohibited from accessing the mining sites. Yet GW is showing a photo of children (on p. 9) who were mining before #AFC_M23 took control of Rubaya, thus misleading its readership claiming that children are mining on the watch of AFC/M23.
Myself and all the researchers/journalists having visited Rubaya since AFC_M23 took control of the area, confirm never having seen any M23, nor any armed element, nor children in the mining pits or near the extraction sites.
It is also to be noted that Camille Laffont (the author of the GW "report" cover photo) routinely misleads his audience, by making false claims on the descriptions of his photos taken in Rubaya, like the one here manipulated by GW. In fact, Camille Laffont, during his visit, has not accessed the mining pits nor come near the active coltan extraction site.
In image #2 below (taken from Camille Laffont's Getty Images account), we can see simple Rubaya residents (not miners), mainly women and children, walking in the area (not at the mining site), carrying their sticks used for balance in the rocky and mountainous Masisi region where Rubaya is located. While they are not in an active mining site, Camille Laffont uses the following description for his photo: "Miners gather during a M23 movement rally at the mine in Rubaya". Not only these are not miners, but as we can see, there are no M23 in this picture, so there is no "M23 rally" here.
What we demonstrated here is only a fraction of the disinformation, false claims, mistruths, and lack of scientific credibility that @Global_Witness has used to craft its report.

From North London to Birmingham, millions of fans will continue to see #VisitRwanda's name on the European stage.
After #Arsenal's successful partnership with Visit Rwanda came to an end, the anti Rwanda crowd rushed to celebrate, convinced that the brand had finally been pushed out of European football. As usual, they were celebrating far too early.
Reports now suggest that Visit Rwanda is set to become Aston Villa's new sleeve sponsor, ensuring that the brand remains visible in the world's most watched football league.
It is a disappointing development for the sports washing brigade. Just when they thought they had scored a victory, #VisitRwanda appears to have secured another Premier League platform, proving once again that the campaign is not retreating but evolving.

Global Witness unethical reporting on Rwanda fuels farther tensions in a conflict-ridden region.
The latest claims by @Global_Witness (GW) that "Rwanda smuggles Congo's coltan" rely on disinformation, approximations, and on manipulated images farther fueling tension in a conflict-ridden region.
To exemplify this statement, GW uses image manipulation suggesting that coltan is smuggled to Rwanda with an image extracted from the UNGoE 2024 final report, i.e., a screenshot of a December 2023 video showing 60 motorbikes carrying #FDLR_Wazalendo, and loaded with bags of coltan, while fleeing M23 from #Rubaya towards #Mushaki. (p. 10 of the report, GW Interactive Map, Images #1, #2, and full original video below).
GW uses this image to suggest that the smugglers are #M23 or working on behalf of Rwanda. Yet in the enclosed video, we hear that these are #FDLR_Wazalendo fleeing from M23 while saying in Swahili (00:31-00:37): "Here are motorbikes loaded with minerals. We are leaving Rubaya and are really fleeing the Tutsi" [The "Tutsi" here means "M23"]. "Here we are in the hills of Ishasha, and here in front of us, we can see the motorbikes", "Here the situation is difficult, pray for us, pray for us!"
GW additionally spreads a mistruth about having been on the ground in the caption of the same image in the interactive map. They write: "Global Witness has travelled with a coltan smuggler through the hills towards Goma." (Image #2). GW in other words mislead its readers about having done a field investigation for this report, but instead relies on recycled manipulated information and images.

>>🇷🇼 Rwanda’s Domestic Processing Plants Are the Ultimate Nightmare for Western-based Corporate NGOs like @Global_Witness.
🧵
1/8
The global resource game is rigged by a massive scam: The Western system IS the primary thief, the primary factory for the stolen goods, and ACTS as the supreme moral judge of the theft all at the same time.
2/8
So-called "international watchdogs" like Global Witness, MiningWatch Canada, etc. are mostly all sitting in wealthy Western capitals—the exact places where resource theft is planned and where the loot is processed.
3/8
None of these Western countries have diamonds, cobalt, copper, or coltan in their own soil. Yet they are the ones making billions off them. They use these watchdogs to trap African economies in endless, confusing paperwork and "compliance audits."
4/8
By forcing African mining sectors to spend all their time and energy defending themselves and proving their innocence to foreign monitors, these NGOs stop African nations from building their own factories, setting their own market prices, or controlling their own wealth.
5/8
These watchdogs ensure that Africa remains nothing more than a raw-material warehouse. They maintain a colonial global narrative that says: "Africans are too violent and corrupt to manage their own minerals, so Western experts must oversee everything."
6/8
It is just a modern, cleaned-up version of the 19th-century colonial "civilizing mission," using human rights buzzwords to hide raw corporate stealing. But this entire multi-billion-dollar extortion machine has hit a massive wall: Rwanda 🇷🇼.
7/8
Rwanda’s independent push for absolute economic autonomy is THE NUMBER ONE THREAT to this global cartel. By building its own high-tech gold refineries and tantalum smelting plants, Rwanda did the forbidden: it brought the processing stage home.
8/8
When the West refines minerals it DOESN'T OWN, it's called a "global trading hub." When Rwanda does it, these media mercenaries scream "smuggling."
Rwanda is their ultimate imperial nightmare because it proves Africa can protect its own children and wealth without a Western boss.

🚨|𝗡𝗘𝗪: Omar Artan has returned to Somalia and was received at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, where he held a meeting with the President of Somalia after his earlier visa denial.
This is the largest sporting event on the planet, despite what some Americans may believe, and the decision to prevent Africa's leading referee from participating in the World Cup sends an extraordinarily damaging message about the United States and the direction in which it is heading.
I am genuinely astonished that FIFA has not lodged a formal protest with the United States Government and sought intervention to ensure that this referee, who is held in the highest regard within the international refereeing community, is granted a visa to undertake one of the most important roles in world football. For any referee, appointment to a World Cup is among the greatest honours the sport can bestow.
A person's country of birth should never be the sole reason for preventing them from entering a country to carry out a specific professional duty at a specific international event. Particularly when the President of the United States publicly assured the world that participants would be welcomed.
If nationality alone has been the determining factor, then this is a serious stain upon both the tournament and the host nation. It raises profound questions about fairness, equality of treatment and whether political considerations are now taking precedence over sporting merit.
The World Cup is supposed to bring nations together. Decisions such as this achieve precisely the opposite.
It's embarrassing for the US to prevent a FIFA accredited Somali referee from entering our country. If we accept hosting the World Cup, we need to welcome teams, officials, and fans from all nations. This is the "world" cup - not the "European" cup!

African Teams and FIFA should have pulled out of the 2026 ALTOGETHER immediately. Africa remains fragmented for outside selfish reasons as a way for African Unity to remain nothing but a dream for over sixty years of so called independence from colonial powers.
