#Villupuram A Dalit woman reporter has allegedly been threatened by dominant caste members of the same village over past feuds, and her family members, including a pregnant woman, were physically assaulted at V Sithamur village near Villupuram on June 22.
The family has demanded immediate police action, claiming that the key accused have not yet been arrested even after two weeks following the alleged caste atrocity.

As part of the many theories that revolved around the tragedy, tribals living in Kalvarayan hills were accused of brewing hooch there and illegally supplying it to those in the plains. Though sources from the hills denied such allegations then, it wasn't heard as loud as the accusations. The result — the people are enduring social stigma attached to the hooch deaths that is causing them a great deal of self-respect.
So, I went to Kalvarayan hills this year to see how they've coped with the incident and what has changed for them.
Covering this story was both draining and hopeful. As a reporter on the ground, it is unbelievable to see how marginalised people in the plains and tribals in the hills have been normalised to accept the shame of illicit liquor addiction and production while the rest of the society casually does both without carrying any stigmatised baggage.

#Kallakurichi hooch (kallasaarayam) death incident is one that reflected the multidimensional problems in our system and how people in the lowest rung of society have no choice but fall prey to the poor lifestyle choices and questioning those in power is a rare, often risk laden activity.
If the government is robust in operating liquor stores and making huge profits from people's leisure habit (that has led to addiction), then the government must also be steadfast in operating rehab centers. It's only least humanitarian to provide a way out for the addicts who were pulled into this loop for power and money hungry politics.

Viluppuram now has a #VCK MP and one MLA for the first time in the district. The fact that Vanni Arasu has stood the ground amidst opposite current is something fantastic. Looks like a hopeful sign for resistance against caste and bringing unified development to uplift the region. #TNResults @VanniArasu_VCK@WriterRavikumar@thirumaofficial

Qn: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami says the elections are for Tamil Nadu and you are targeting Delhi to deflect from the government’s failures. How do you respond?
M K Stalin: If there is no interference of Delhi in Tamil Nadu’s election, why did Palaniswami run to Delhi even for the seat-sharing talks of their alliance.

Remember the brutal caste murders in #Kachanatham, Sivagangai (2018) where three dalit men were killed by dominant caste members, #Gokulraj, a dalit youth who was ruthlessly killed by a caste outift in Nammakal (2015)?
The accused in both the cases were sentenced to lifetime imprisonment because of the brilliant arguments and legal excellence showed by the #SpecialPublicProsecutors who appeared for the victims.
The State Government that was supposed to pay them immediately after the case was completed did not. Those SPPs were represented before the Madras High Court seeking remuneration. Despite the HC order, they are still not paid the fees.
