In 1893, Frederick Douglass invited Ida B. Wells to lunch. She noted a place across the street, but indicated they would not receive service there. “Mr. Douglass, in his vigorous way, grasped my arm and said, ‘Come, let’s go there.’” Together, they “sauntered in...as if it were an everyday occurrence, cocked and primed for the fight if necessary.” Douglass grabbed a table and chair for him and Wells, as “paralyzed” staff looked on. A stand-off ensued with wait staff until the proprietor realized it was Frederick Douglass, and warmly welcomed him while sharing stories of a time past when Douglass visited his hometown. “When [the proprietor] finally went to another part of the room, Mr. Douglass turned to me with a roguish look and said, ‘Ida, I thought you said that they didn’t serve us here. It seems we are getting more attention than we want.’”
Frederick Douglass spent his life fighting for justice and equality. He never knew the date of his birth. This is something he struggled with throughout his lifetime. Douglass believed that he was born in the month of February in 1817. In fact, records show that Douglass was born in February of 1818. He chose the 14th of February for his birthday because his mother would call him her “little Valentine." Unfortunately, Douglass never knew much about his parentage. His mother, Harriet, was sold off when Douglass was but a child, and he only met her a few times before she passed away. Though born enslaved in Maryland, he escaped as a young man and became a leading voice in the abolitionist movement.

Happy Birthday to the late Coretta Scott King. She was an author, activist, civil rights leader and the wife of Martin Luther King Jr.
She wasn’t just the wife of an American hero, she was an icon in her own right.
Dad teaching babygirl how to dance is going to be a blessing to her life in a lot of ways. Some call it step, we (from the dmv) call it hand-dancing. Regardless of what you call it, it’s a beautiful thing.

Coco Gauff says just because you don’t support what’s happening in Gaza doesn’t make you antisemitic
She feels a sense of helplessness watching Israel’s military force in Gaza.
“I don’t really support the mass violence going on to innocent people on both ends of the spectrum. And there’s one side that’s getting killed at more drastically faster rates than the other side.”
She wants Hamas to release all Israeli hostages and wants to see a ceasefire, but she fears that neither side is hearing the other.
“I feel like it’s becoming more, if you don’t support what’s happening in Gaza, it makes you feel like you’re antisemitic. I feel far from that.”
Gauff makes no apologies for expressing her views on one of the most fraught issues of our age.
“I am not one to shy away from something that I feel informed about. And I feel pretty informed about this topic.”

BREAKING: Music icon John Legend rips into Donald Trump with a fiery takedown for being a racist "to his core" and then brings the receipts to prove it.
This is what courage looks like...
"When we protested the killing of George Floyd, he was advocating for the military to shoot us in the streets," said Legend during an appearance on MSNBC. "He has made it clear throughout his life that he believes Black people are inferior. Like, he believes that, to his core, in his bones."
Legend drew attention to the fact that Trump refused to rent some units in his buildings to Black Americans in the past, a blatant policy of discrimination that was described by the FBI in 2017.
The singer added that Trump "believes in a genetic hierarchy of humanity, and it’s racially determined."
"He is a tried and true, dyed-in-the-wool racist,” said Legend. "In the core of his being, he is a racist. So I don’t want to hear what he has to say about what he’s done for Black people. He’s done very little for us, and he is, at his core, truly, truly a racist."
Legend will hit the campaign trail for President Biden later this year and he says that the choice is "very clear."
Please retweet and ❤️ to thank John Legend for telling the cold hard truth — and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a new pro-democracy social network that is exploding in popularity because Twitter and Facebook are trying to stop its growth — which is only making Tribel grow even faster.
