I'm sure its amazing in community, but it lacks in biblical truth.

There is a framework the SDA church operates in and that framework is imposed on to the bible and presented as 'truth'.

A really really easy way to test this is to read the full context of the passage in questions, asking:
- Who is part of the conversation
- What is the main topic of conversation
- What was said before and after the proof text
- What words are actually being said vs inferred.

Start with the bible. The Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). An objective truth and filter everything you hear and experience through that.

Ask for wisdom (James 1:5) for he will surely give if asked in faith.

Let the Holy Spirit lead (but not detached from the bible) for he will lead you into all truth. (John 16:13)

Test all spirits (everything you hear and experience). (1 John 4:1

Why does there have to be extremes within Christianity?

Is there no room for nuanced discussions anymore? Living in the tension of multiple truths?

Take for instance a cessionist. They would say that ' "hearing" God, whether audible, inaudible, promptings, inner-peace, or a coincidence' would be to subvert the authority of scripture. As though these things are "adding" on to what scripture says rather than confirm. They would classify this under 'revelation'.

Yet, on the extreme charismatic side, everything is from God. There is no need to test any spirits. If it makes me feel good, it must be from God!

What about the in-between? The grey area? What about testing the spirits? Or not letting an experince define how we view the bible?

Just because someone wrote a book or on stage, doesn't mean they are speaking truth. Seek the scriptures instead of resorting to polemics, false equivocations, or blanked statements.

An example of what kind of heavy lifting certain theological frameworks can do, a great example is cessationism.

A framework and its conclusions are assumed to be true apart from the bible, then read into the bible rather the other way around.

Just an observation from a book I’m currently reading on how God communicates:

When making an argument against a particular position, one of the most problematic approaches is to begin with anecdotal evidence. Then spotlight a very specific group engaging in genuinely unbiblical practices, then quietly stretch that critique to everyone else.

All while neglecting to define key terms and failing to recognize that the subject requires a surgical knife, not a bone saw.

That’s not careful theology. That’s a broad conclusion built on a narrow foundation, dressed up as discernment.
