Already heard my first story of person faking a vaccine certificate. Coercing ppl to vaccinate in our context (apart from ethical issues) is possibly more dangerous from a practical point of view. Something to consider as we #VaccinateToSaveSouthAfrica
MAVERICK CITIZEN INVESTIGATION: Gauteng Department of Education spent R431-million in three months on unnecessary ‘deep cleaning’ and ‘decontamination’ of schools https://t.co/DVedxoeYT8
@Ukufunda Thanks. I do think subjects like Maths can still cut matric content like probability and stats. Some feedback from lecturers years ago said they would prefer if basics like trig and calculus were sound,&they would cover the rest as students were coming in weak across the board.
People - submit your ideas on how to handle SA education during a time of COVID. I’ve been told this form is being distributed by Schoolnet and responses will be collated and submitted to the DBE. Have an idea - no matter how far out? submit! https://t.co/PEEhw2vLd1
I’m so tired of hearing the we must save the academic year. We need to keep learning alive - particularly maths, reading & writing skills but this drive to ‘save’ the curriculum as it stands is ridiculous #PrioritiseLearning
My economic history isn’t great, but if memory serves me right then SA was lucky that the gold price went up in 1934 - which helped with balance of payments, also didn’t import subs eventually stall manufacturing efficiency because it reduced competition? https://t.co/9I2GOCYof0
I have written many books on the African people and one word you will never find in them is “tribe” (except when I’m critical of its usage.) It is one of those deeply offensive colonial words like “vernacular”. Once more read: The Trouble with Tribe https://t.co/PSWRFf4RjP
We often read about the terrible physical and educational conditions black (BC sense) kids experience, but not enough of the emotional. Heartbreaking. SCHOOL EQUALITY: Instagram is the digital street of Black Lives Matter protests in South Africa https://t.co/0ZDJysJvoa
OPINIONISTA: Reopening schools is an ill-considered move – ask the teachers, not the economists https://t.co/E4WHhGNdDQ. Interesting read. Well written and thought provoking by someone who understands ed situation in SA
@JohnVLombardo We can’t completely negate risk. We put kids at risk when we put them in a car, on a plane, send them to crèche in an average year during flu season, go on holiday to a malaria area, live in violent SA. The extent of the risk is NB and should be included in discussions.
@JohnVLombardo I’m going on the evidence available - kids are at very minor risk of severe Covid it would seem and it also appears that they are not super spreaders. Staff appear more at risk.
