Random tip of the day: “not for nothing” is what you’re looking for; use it instead of “nothing for nothing”
*Not for nothing* Means “not without reason” or “there’s a good reason for this.”
Something has a valid reason, purpose, or clear justification.
Often used to introduce a point: “I’m not saying this randomly.”
Example: Not for nothing, but that coat is going to be too warm for October.
*Nothing for nothing* Not a standard English idiom on its own. People usually mean the proverb “you don’t get something for nothing” (or “you get nothing for nothing”): nothing is free; everything has a cost or a catch.
Example: The “free” vacation came with a three-hour timeshare pitch. You get nothing for nothing.
The two phrases are NOT interchangeable. One is about having a reason; the other is about nothing being free.
@JackPosobiec Jack, the way you would actually support Aidan if you had a clue what Massachusetts is doing. No way you actually support a corrupt liberal DA, cop killers, & a govt that constantly seeks to silent dissent and remove 1st Amendment rights from its citizens.
@GrantSmithEllis@KyleSharkey8 Can someone explain to me how it’s fair for a man not to be able to mention the name of a woman who caused his son‘s death? And can that same person explain to me why a judge might be so insanely difficult about a man wanting the Mass card from his precious son‘s funeral back?
In a recent forum, popular neuroscientist and health guru, Andrew Huberman, revealed his secret for falling asleep in those anxious mid-morning hours when he says you shouldn't believe any thought that fills your mind. He said, "I'm being completely direct with you when I say it's worked every single time."
Huberman: "What I do is I get out of bed, and I pray. And these days, you know, again, I'm just being completely direct with my practice, I just pray to God. I pray, I just ask Jesus, 'Would you please hold me and bring me some peace so I can rest, so I can be my best self tomorrow, so I can serve the world better. And I'm hurting right now, and I can't seem to do it for myself.'
He also referenced techniques for calming the body in this discussion, but he emphasized the relief he has found through prayer:
"It's a great time to pray. I'm serious, many a night, many a night, you will find me on my knees praying in the hours between 3 and 5:00 a.m. simply for peace, simply to get to morning without additional stress, simply just trying to listen for something other than my own anxious thoughts."
As a woman in her late 40s, I found it comforting to know that even big, strong health gurus know what it's like to struggle with sleep, but also to be reminded that ultimately it's the Lord who gives peace and rest to those who cast their anxious cares on Him. 💤
Yesterday I caddied for a group with more money than they could spend in many, many lifetimes.
And I'll admit, there was a period during the loop where I felt envious. They were talking about trip after trip after trip that they had planned all over the world. Multiple homes. Dinner plans at expensive restaurant. Etc.
But today I get to have the joy of morning coffee in my comfy chair. I get to walk a beautiful golf course and come home with some cash in my pocket to pay the bills. I have leftover Chinese in the fridge. NFL is starting. I have great followers on X who support the mission at the Sober House. My family is healthy. I'm healthy.
Turns out, I'm rich!
Happy Sunday, Friends! Rooting for you!
At times, the joy that life attacks me with is unbearable and leads to gasping hysterical laughter. I find myself completely out of control and wonder how could life could surprise me again and again and again, so completely. How could a man be a cynic? It is a sin.
@StandingBy99@Purp1eKoolAid Hurts? Not in the least. What a creator I don’t respect offers to her members doesn’t affect my life in any way.
I’m confused by those who buy memberships for no benefit, and I admire creators who value their members time & money by offering something unique for it.
@JulieTinchk141@LorenKatie I actually think it’s 100% because of money, just like everything is with her. Those who can’t look away from the train wreck that she is watch Loren now instead of her. Less views = less money… she wants to stop Loren so we give her the views/money instead.
