@psymonbee @OllyMetcalfe @UKLabour Even if the HMRC VAT registration process was ready, why would a school register early, incur all the additional costs, based on a possibility and without knowledge of the start date for when it would be required?
@MartinSLewis Is this restricted to consumer finance agreements, or is there scope for small businesses who may have signed up to similar terms under Ltd companies etc?
@I_Am_Stevieg @BBCNews The chippy is still a company in its own right, it's accounts are not affected by ownership.
And the article doesn't say they're broke, it just outlines the real effect of the NI changes, and that jobs will be lost as a result.
@i_iratus @riversorare@Frances_Coppola It could equally be based on minimum wage.
Most likely people to be affected will be nannies, either reduced hours or no job at all
@PickleRick_C24 @LanceForman@nurseybird1 What if they were making a profit, but increased costs, eg cost of supply & wage costs, means that they are now making a loss.
Should they also just close the business? Or do you think they might adjust things, eg increase prices or reduce staff, make other cut backs?
@Zero_4 Rachel Reeves has estimated that VAT on schools will net Β£9 billion by 2030.
I know lawyers can be expensive, but I doubt the bill will get quite as high as that π
@Wenlockedge1 @KirstieMAllsopp Farms struggle to turn profit, it's unlikely that there will be sufficient reserves to pay the 20% IHT.
The only option will be to sell assets, ie reduce the farm in some way, to pay the tax.
Reduction in farm size will likely reduce its viability.
It's a death knell for farms
@RobWilcocks Wages are a tax deductible expense, money paid out for wages would be deducted from profits. So you would not be paying corporation tax and income tax at the same time, its either on or the other.
@sharrond62@kelly_ques Great film π
A bit expensive now, but Jacques Mayal's book "Homos Delphinus" is worth a look as an accompaniment

@sharrond62 It's bizarre. The "Landlords are evil" crowd fail to realise that if being a landlord becomes too difficult and/or provides insufficient returns, they will sell up and invest their cash elsewhere.
This isn't sticking it to landlords, it's creating a problem for renters.
@slgard@JamesMelville London public transport is OK (when they're not striking) if you need to go in and out of central.
Not so good if you need to travel between boroughs in greater London.
Public transport travel time for me to go from outer W London to Greenford is the same as going to Bristol!
@JonquilLucy@cristo_radio@RachelReevesMP People invest money in rental properties in order to get a return. It's not a lifestyle choice or a charity offering, it's an investment. For many people, its their pension.
If the investment becomes too risky, or returns fall, they'll put the money elsewhere.
@RepealTCPA1947 @annesnelgrove @BBCNews The suggested rip off is in the admin fees that the park charges when the caravan is rented out to third parties on behalf of the owner.
Whether it's a rip off, or caveat emptor depends on who clear/sneaky the Ts and Cs where, but it's not an uncommon story.
