@Mayor_of_Light@tariqnasheed That’s incorrect. People of West African (Africoid/Negroid) came to the Americas as free. Slavery was only the third stream…and unfortunately the most popular narrative.
@jamesbody181543@Mayor_of_Light@NkechiKwenu@tariqnasheed Many of us USA DOEWA (Descendants of Enslaved West Africans) indeed have Amerindian ancestry because since the 14th century we’ve lived among natives. THEY CAME BEFORE COLUMBUS breaks it down.
@NkechiKwenu@Mayor_of_Light@tariqnasheed de Ayllon is the Spanish explorer who settled in modern day Georgia/South Carolina in 1526. Note: I prefer we be called USA DOEWA (Descendants of Enslaved West Africans) because “America(n)” is not synonymous with the United States. I dare not monopolize the whole hemisphere.
@Mayor_of_Light@NkechiKwenu@tariqnasheed West Africans, explorers in their own right, crossed the Atlantic into the Americas as early as 1311 (predating the establishment of the US). In 1526, a Spanish colony fell and the enslaved West Africans lived amongst native tribes. We’ve been here at least 500 years.
@BreakingBrown@MuscadineMar Ouch, Sis. Yvette. Tariq is fiery but the good he’s doing is undeniable, just as important as you & Antonio’s. Together we’re a force! Can’t we come together…if only for our 500th anniversary in the Americas (c. Aug, 9, 1526)…learned from Prof. Nasheed.
What’s wrong with “African American”?
Rev. Jackson popularized it in the late 80s (🙏🏾 for him). For multigenerational US-born our N. American origin story that continued into the US has led to new names. Why would we need a new term? #USADOEWA#ADOS#FBA#Black#HookedOnRecovery
In Sarah's Oil, the father was timid while his daughter carried agency. Even “true” stories shape how we’re seen. As we near 500 years here since 1526, time to define ourselves. Read + review USA DOEWA: A Manifesto. https://t.co/v6SlyvYYGB #USADOEWA#ADOS#FBA#Black#author
Black Africans came to No. America in 3 waves: navigators in the 1300s, those who escaped the Gualdape colony in 1526, and the 388,000 via the Middle Passage. See how Dr. Sertima breaks down the first stream. #500Years#1526to2026#ADOS#FBA#overcome#recover#HookedOnRecovery
USA DOEWA - Descendants of Enslaved West Africans is a name honoring the 3 waves that brought us here—free Africans before Columbus, those who escaped the failed Spanish colony in 1526, and the 388,000 forced across the Middle Passage.
Which do you descend from?
