Stephen Ireland co-founded Pride in Surrey in 2018 and remained listed as a director until police opened their investigation.

In 2024 he was charged with a long list of child s*x offences spanning roughly two years.

Those charges included the r*pe of a child under 13, multiple counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in s*xual activity, s*xual as$ault, voyeurism, conspiracy to engage in s*xual activity with a child, arranging the commission of a child s*x offence, and making and distributing indecent images of children.

At trial, prosecutors showed he met a 12-year-old boy on a dating app, brought him to the flat he shared with co-defendant David Sutton, and r*ped the child. Ireland also sent images of the boy to Sutton and discussed him in explicit messages.

Both men were convicted. Ireland received a 24-year prison sentence plus six years on extended licence. Sutton was jailed for related offences including making and possessing indecent images.

A man who helped lead a Pride organisation and was connected to LGBT+ education efforts ended up convicted of some of the most serious child s*x crimes on the books.

The pattern of predators embedding themselves in these spaces continues to surface.
