Poet and priest Gerard Manley Hopkins died #onthisday in 1889.
Ordained in 1877, his best known poem is probably The Wreck of the Deutschland, inspired by the ship of the same name which sank with nuns aboard.
His memorial is in Poets' Corner.

From 1630 to 1654, there was a Dutch colony in north of Brazil. Post filled sketchbooks with images of local flora and fauna. His retrospective paintings, a mixture of fantasy and observation, found a large clientele.
