@TheoFleury14 You MIGHT get your wish granted now that the RCMP has established that he did interfere in an investigation made into him related to SNC-Lavalin
@PancakeMisery@The_Stebe@Wario64 I would urge you to consider an alternative scenario, for which we have mounting evidence.
For a long time, AI was a bubble, now we know it works, and fewer people are required to do the same work. There is danger there, and it doesn't stem from greed but AI.
@c0pper78@The_Stebe@Wario64 It is certainly a rude awakening, but I hope it helps people put in perspective their purchases have consequence. Someone who buys the next CoD gives support to a company who gives no shit about job stability.
@c0pper78@The_Stebe@Wario64 Capital leads to recruitment, leads to products, etc.
If demand hadn't surged, there would not have been a sudden hiring spree.
@c0pper78@The_Stebe@Wario64 Are you familiar with the Tulip Mania? Believe it or not, great financial catastrophes are very often caused by customers and not the other way around, and this has been consistently true since 1634...
@PancakeMisery@The_Stebe@Wario64 I'm a business analyst. I see why people buy into the greed narrative, but there is a lot more to what's going on right now (including a progressive shift of the workforce towards eastern Europe). I wrote a report on that back in November, and so far, my predictions are accurate.
@The_Stebe@Wario64 There are two sides to that story...
You can also blame customers in the early 2020s asking for more and more releases, faster than studios could ever deliver. Sure, studios got greedy and over-hired to meet demand, but the demand was indeed there...
@thirsty_dev @JesseCox Oh, I don't like it either, but Embracer is one of the least worrisome, with a severely underpaid CEO. They genuinely tried to make things better...
@thirsty_dev @JesseCox Also, their CEO is' by far, one of the most underpaid CEOs in the entire industry. There have been quite a few articles covering that.
@ElfDestruct@JesseCox bear in mind, Mythcarver is part of the lucky few, we raised 108k for A Frog's Tale (kickstarter) which is more revenue than the average serious indie game (lifetime), I'm not complaining for us, but merely bringing attention to a problem that is playing a big role in layoffs atm
@ElfDestruct@JesseCox Actually, Mike Rose did a reasonable effort to take out shovelware from the equation, and it still looks pretty grim for indies (30-45k revenue on >300k production budgets)
@TweetTheNoob@JesseCox If that were the case, the studios who follow shareholders' interests would be the ones suffering.
Yet, while their layoffs may make headlines, their quarterly financial reports tell a different story.
It is the small guys that hurt the most.
