@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry I was in tee swingers and urban youth golf program before first tee. I grew up and learned the game there. It’s a shame we don’t have grassroots programs like this anymore.

@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry Of those names mentioned many have been employed by or have served/are currently serving on 1st tees board, so in a way you are saying that. I’m only here to speak up for those people that have tried to make a positive impact, not the 1st tee org in general.

@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry 1st tee as a national org has its flaws, without a doubt. I just mean to say that the people running the Louisville chapter mean well. I do agree that it would certainly be better if there were more grassroots programs for youth available.

@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry Fair enough, but the program is just an entry point to the game, it’s not meant to make you a great golfer. Any other ideas are a little misguided. This info is easy to find. I just don’t believe the people that work with 1st tee Louisville are intentionally misleading families.

@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry Im older and stuff changes, but Greg Gibson, Craig Heibert, Kevin Greenwell, George Johnson, Juan Mitchell, Blake Hardesty, and many other local pros have participated in the program..and were certainly not trying to take advantage of people.

@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry The goal is to teach kids the game while showing them that those same values can be used outside of golf. Honestly, respect, sportsmanship, etc. What’s wrong with that?

@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry Lastly, I’ve given instruction at the program. Each week you have a core value. That theme is tied into the lesson, but the kids are practicing golf the whole time. Even with the best teacher, if you spend 1hr/week doing something you won’t become a great golfer.

@LVilleMetGolf @GaryMarry One of my mentors in my youth, Greg Gibson, had a huge impact on my access to the game and I met him when he was an assistant pro at Shawnee giving instruction thru The First Tee. Everything deserves critique, but you get out of it what you put in.
