In 2005, filmmakers handed Californian Ted $100,000, free financial advice, and a camera crew to record what happened.

At first, his life improved. He moved into a motel, then an apartment, and finally had stability.

But as the money disappeared, he rejected expert advice, trusted only his instincts, and eventually returned to living under the bridge.
