Electronic shelf labels are digital price tags that can be updated remotely across entire stores. Surveillance pricing takes it a step further by using personal data, such as location, shopping history, and browsing behavior, to tailor prices to individual customers.
As digital price tags become more common in grocery stores, many Americans are pushing back. A new survey by the UFCW found that 68% of respondents support banning electronic shelf labels, amid concerns they could enable practices such as dynamic or surge pricing.
