Happy Juneteenth!

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States of America. On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the war had ended and slavery had been abolished.

This news came 2 and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed.

Juneteenth is a second Independence Day and a day for celebration, but its important to recognize that it took 2 and a half years for freedom to be granted to everyone.
