@PastoralThings Avoidance is one explanation,yes but by no means the full story. It's also possible that complex & challenging behaviours, unrelated to avoidance, cause pupils to miss key learning, incl literacy. Sometimes it is true that they don't want to 'look stupid', but often more complex
