Our hearts are with the @CanadianForces community following the tragic events at CFB Wainwright.

Through our students, alumni, employees and partnerships, NAIT has longstanding connections with military members, veterans and their families across Alberta and Canada. We know this tragedy will be felt deeply by many within our own community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones, our support to those who are injured and recovering, and our gratitude to the military and civilian emergency responders and health-care professionals caring for those affected.

At this difficult time, the NAIT community stands alongside all those impacted.

3rd year Autobody apprentice Anika Jones and Chair of the Autobody program, Cecile Bukmeier, are headed to Shanghai to represent Team Canada in Car Painting at @WorldSkills. With more than 1,400 competitors from 90 countries across 64 skill competitions, this is one of the largest gatherings of talent every two years.

Anika will have her parents travelling alongside her, cheering her on as she competes against 23 other car painters from participating nations.

Cecile will also represent NAIT on the world stage as the Team Canada WorldSkills Expert in the same competition. She has also worked alongside Anika for the last two years, helping her prepare for this competition.

Good luck, Anika! We're proud to see you and Cecile representing NAIT, Alberta and Canada on the world stage.

🎨🚗 Car Painting in Denmark!

Alberta’s Team Canada competitor in Car Painting, Anika Jones from @NAIT recently travelled to Denmark for some important training ahead of the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai! 🌎 Joining Anika was Expert and Trainer Cecile Bukmeier, who brings plenty of knowledge and experience to the team — including her own experience as a Skills alumna!

The shovels are in the dirt!

Today marks the start of construction on the Advanced Skills Centre, a 625,000-square-foot investment in the future of skilled trades and technology education in Alberta.

As the largest capital project in NAIT's history, the Advanced Skills Centre will create modern labs, classrooms, and workspaces designed to support the next generation of talent across construction, energy, manufacturing and transportation programs.

Thank you to everyone who attended, including @AndrewKnack, and the many partners who helped move this project from concept to construction, including the Honourable @McDougallYYC, our design partners at @GECArchitecture and @DIALOG, and our construction partner, PCL Construction.

We're excited to see this vision reshape our campus.

A new season. New faces. Another national championship.

After a standout 2025-26 season, the NAIT Ooks are gearing up for another exciting year of competition, and hopefully, championship moments.

This fall, we welcome a new men's hockey head coach, bring a major @ACAC_Sport cross-country race back to NAIT, and host the @CCAAsportACSC men's soccer national championship.

But success isn't just measured on the scoreboard. Last year, Ooks student-athletes achieved an impressive 3.3 GPA and nine earned CCAA Academic All-Canadian honours.

Whether you're cheering from the stands or following along online, there's plenty to look forward to this season.

Welcome to a new school year at NAIT.

Whether you’re returning to campus or joining us for the first time, I’m glad you’re a part of our community. This is one of my favourite times of the year. The hallways fill up, classes begin, new friendships start and campus has new life.

I know the start of a year can feel exciting, overwhelming or maybe a bit of both. There's a lot ahead of us.

This year, there will be lot of change around campus. We’re building the Advanced Skills Centre, the largest expansion in NAIT’s history, and reimagining the South Lobby as a new student services hub.

We’re also launching the Student Experience Action Plan and a new Academic Advising model to help support students' education, career planning and campus experience.

I’m excited for the year ahead, and I’m excited to meet all of the new NAIT students.

If you see me in the hallways, please say hello. I’d love to hear how your NAIT journey is going and what we can do to help make it even better.

- Clayton Davis, Vice-President, Students and Campus Experience

@TonyBrarOTV Best of luck on what comes next, Tony!

The South Lobby is becoming a future-focused hub for student support.

A $12 million renovation project is underway to transform the space into a centralized “one-stop shop” where students can access key services, including counselling, career advising, learning services and peer support, in a more seamless and accessible way.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the new South Lobby will adapt to evolving student needs and an expanding student body while creating opportunities for connection, community and collaboration at the heart of campus.

Construction is scheduled for completion in fall 2028.

What would inspire someone to cycle 30,000 kilometres across two continents?

Leanna Carriere (Personal Fitness Trainer '17), an entrepreneur, former Team Canada pole vaulter and Canada's first female decathlete, alongside her partner, Dr. Timm Döbert, is embarking on Wings of Survival: a nine-month journey from northern Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, tracing the migratory path of the Hudsonian Whimbrel to raise awareness about bird conservation and habitat protection.

The expedition will take them through 15 countries and average roughly 120 kilometres per day.

A future in the skilled trades can start with a single moment of discovery.

For students at M.E. LaZerte High School, building a home with Homes by Avi provides more than hands-on experience. It gives them the chance to explore new skills, discover possibilities and imagine a future they may not have considered.

For those who choose to continue their journey, Homes by Avi, Edmonton’s investment in NAIT student awards helps create a pathway into skilled trades education and careers.

Because every career starts somewhere.

Sometimes, it starts with discovering what you’re capable of.
