Today, NAPCAN joined other organisations and wrote in support of the # Your Reference Ain't Relevant campaign. A campaign founded by @itsharrijames and Jarad Grice that aims to scrap good character references for convicted paedophiles.
There are myriad reasons for the problematic nature of good character references upholding the image of child sexual abuse perpetrators in our criminal justice system. Namely, that the very nature of this crime is built upon indicators of ill character; that of manipulation, predatory behaviours and grooming by presenting as a trustworthy adult.
Join the campaign by sending in your letter of support to Harrison.
Thank you to our incredible panel of insightful, energetic and action-driven young people. Discussion was packed with opportunities for us all to make change. There is a clear message - in whatever you do, consult with and listen to young people - "nothing about us without us"
Discussion w/ First Nations Children's Commissioners, Guardians & Advocates led by @CatherineLiddl4. Calling for a National Aboriginal Chn's Commissioner will ensure that First Nations ch'n are the front & centre of decisions that impact them. We all need to support this call.
At the @SNAICC conf today listening to @NACCHOChair highlighting the need for structural change to shift institutional racism. We need to listen deeply to the experts to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are in all levels of decision-making
Such a privilege to listen to Prof. Judy Atkinson and Kylie Captain on this afternoon's National Child Protection Week webinar
As Judy said, "Deep listening is a gift from Aboriginal culture. If we listen to ourselves and to our children, we're the ones that can heal this nation"
NAPCAN and partners are calling for a National Summit to Prevent Child Maltreatment.
A letter has been sent to Prime Minister, @AlboMP urging the government to make children a national priority.
We invite you to join this call #ncpw23

"Every child deserves to feel loved and safe. The issue of child abuse and maltreatment goes to the heart of who we are as a nation and what we will become." - @NAPCANCEO
We have been doing great work across Australia but working in silos is not going to help us connect the jigsaw pieces of the wellbeing puzzle for children and their families.
We have to start somewhere and that is why this Summit call to action by NAPCAN is so important. #ncpw23
At the launch of National Child Protection Week, @NAPCANCEO and Chairperson of NAPCAN's Youth Advisory Council, on behalf of NAPCAN and partners, are calling on the Commonwealth Government to host a National Summit to Prevent Child Maltreatment: https://t.co/Lxjbsy9BUH

"Australia's children need us to get this right!" says @NAPCANCEO CEO @NAPCAN_AU
Let's come together at a national summit to sit at the same table, talk & share our knowl to keep chn safe & protect them from harm
Children need us to do better as Australians. The time to act on this issue has always been now. We now just have the supporting evidence that clearly shows the prevalence of harm and the impact of looking away.

Honoured to be in the room with Karen Mundine @RecAustralia, Catherine Liddle @SNAICC, Claire Robbs @LWBAustralia for the release of the RAP. Fitting to hear from @AlboMP for the Voice to Parliament question. An opportunity to walk in the right direction towards reconciliation.
Attending the launch of the Family Matters Report 2022 today - such critical work to inform much needed reform. The statistics are startling and the message is clear: Australia, we need to do more... much, much more. @SNAICC @LindaBurneyMP @CatherineLiddl4
Sooo important to acknowledge children and young people as victim-survivors in their own right. We also need to make sure their voices are at the centre of reform initiatives.
If we are serious about ending violence against women, we need to get serious about stopping violence in childhood.

Taking a few moments to acknowledge & celebrate the enormous work that went into developing this plan.
It’s been a journey. Nearly 2 years in the making & decades of blood, sweat & tears prior to that from an incredibly committed bunch of humans, including many not in room today
It's now time to commit to action to ensure the necessary change.
We applaud the plan in recognising children in this space and will work to ensure that the voices of children continue to be heard as we all work together to prioritise prevention
A new 10-year plan will aim to end violence against women and children within one generation.
"It is about investment but it's also about a change in attitudes," Women's Safety Minister Amanda Rishworth said.
