The 2026 "Jump Start Jefferson" pitch competition was very successful in recognizing and rewarding some great entrepreneurs and their small business ideas. The Competition was held on May 13th in Charles Town, WV. A total of $11,500 in cash was awarded the night of the competition. WV Secretary of State Kris Warner gave the official welcome to all who attended. He also served as a judge along with Tyler Tummolo (the owner of Varsity Travel) and Jefferson County Commissioner Steve Stolipher. The event was hosted by the Jefferson County Economic Development Authority and sponsored by Potomac Bank and Varsity Travel.
EDA Director Daryl Cowles congratulated all six of the finalists who pitched their ideas. The finalists included:
1) Ririka Evans (Home Cooking Solutions, LLC) who won the 3rd Place prize of $1,000
2)Adrienne “Sam” Makita (Harpers Ferry School of Massage)
3) Samantha Ramsburg (Elite Apparel and Designs) who won 2nd Place prize of $2,500 as well as the People's Choice prize of $500
4) Mckenna Valasek (Simply Smoothies) who won the 1st Place Grand Prize of $7,500
5) Trevor Held (Spirited Grounds, LLC)
6) Kayla Harrell (Tapas Mar)
