Speaking on the growing concerns around smartwatch and wearable battery safety, Prof NK Goyal thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for proactively introducing mandatory BIS standards as early as 2020. He highlighted that standards such as BIS 13252 for smartwatches & wearables and BIS 16046 for batteries made it legally compulsory for manufacturers and importers to comply before selling products in India.

Prof. Goyal emphasized that while India has established a strong framework for battery testing and overheating protection, the biggest challenge remains public awareness and the increasing demand for cheap, unverified online products. He also pointed out risks arising from smuggled electronic goods entering the market without proper certification.

He urged citizens to purchase only approved and certified devices, especially when it comes to products used by children, stressing that safety should never be compromised for lower prices.

• Avoid No-Name Brands: Stick to reputable brands. Prof. Goyal noted that many local market "clones" lack the necessary safety circuits to manage heat.
• Say No to Overnight Charging: Never leave your devices charging all night. Overcharging is a leading cause of battery swelling.
• Watch for Warning Signs: If your screen begins to bulge or the watch feels unusually hot, take it off immediately.
• Use Original Chargers: Prof. Goyal stressed that using third-party chargers can deliver the wrong voltage, destabilizing the battery.
• Remove Before Sleep: To minimize risk, it is best to remove wearable tech before going to bed.

Prof NK Goyal, President CSAI at SOU Univ said inspired by the vision of PM Modi Ji at the Global Conference on Cyber Security (GCCS) 2017, that “One of the major focus areas should be the training of well-equipped and capable professionals to counter cyber threats, "Cyber Warriors" who will remain on the alert against cyber-attacks. We need to ensure that cyber protection becomes an attractive and viable career option for youth.”

In most institutions, Cyber Security existed only as a specialization within Computer Science or Electronics programs. CSAI took a pioneering step to bridge it.

In addition, CSAI has initiated specialized Diploma and skilling programs in:• Cyber Security• GDPR• Penetration Testing• Cyber Forensics• Offensive Security• Defensive Security

These initiatives are aimed at building a future-ready workforce equipped to address emerging cyber threats and strengthen India’s digital resilience.
