#Quote โFor nearly two decades, (the NBDF) has served as one of the regionโs important platforms for dialogue, knowledge exchange and partnership building.โ - @UNDPUganda yesterday at NBDF8 launch.

Getting
the people right,
the procedures right,
the pens right
is often part of our delicate processes to serve Member States well.
The PS and the ED signed in commitment to #NBDF8#NileBasinForum8
The Executive Director in Dodoma yesterday, on why the NBDF matters:
"Because behind every discussion on water, there are people.
There is a rice farmer deciding when to plant.
A family hoping to receive an early flood warning before disaster strikes.
An engineer designing the next hydropower scheme.
An investor seeking reliable information before financing critical infrastructure.
A young person whose future depends on secure water, affordable energy and a healthy environment.
The NBDF brings together science, policy and lived experience so that the decisions we make about our shared river translate into better lives for the more than 300 million who depend on it."

NBI has been hosting the NBDF every three years since 2006 in #AddisAbaba.
The platform brings together water scientists, government ministers, policy makers, academicians & development partners from across the Nile Basin to
๐งexchange latest scientific information, knowledge & best practices in water management
๐งdiscuss opportunities, challenges & prospects in #transboundary water cooperation
๐งbuild partnerships and networks in water resources management & development
As climate change continues to impact water resources, the sustainable management of shared water resources across the Nile Basin remains a key priority. ๐ง๐
In Uganda, the recently launched Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) sites in Ntungamo and Bulambuli are already demonstrating the tangible benefits of groundwater recharge. Funded by @theGEF and jointly implemented by @UNDPUganda and @nbiweb, the sites are improving water availability, strengthening climate resilience, and helping communities adapt to the impacts of climate change.
A great pleasure to have met the team from the @nbiweb led by Dr Nestor Niyonzima, Executive Director, Dr Abraha Adugna, Deputy Executive Director, Dr Maha Abdelraheem Ismail, Ground Water Project Technical Lead and Ms. Lydia Wamala, Communications Specialist.
An important opportunity to jointly reflect on years of successful collaboration under our joint @theGEF financed

We discussed phase II, in which we will scale the pilots Basinwide with "managed aquifer recharge" technology & other aspects for knowledge generation, infrastructure for safe drinking water #SDG6 & community ownership.
The Resident Representative emphasised the need for documenting the process, results, lessons learned, through both people-centred and scientific content, which NBI is undertaking.
Thank you @theGEF@UNDPUganda for this parthership for #NileCooperation
NBIโs Strategic Water Resource Analysis - ongoing since 2015 - found that the Nile Basin will need one and a half Niles by 2050, unless we reverse #WaterScarcity
It underlines importance of pilots such as this for sustainable water management through cooperation @UNDPUganda
Our call today on Resident Rep @UNDPUganda - led by ED - was most uplifting ๐
She expressed extreme pride in what we've achieved together under pilots in 4 countries, advancing combined use of surface & groundwater #WaterSecurity
She listed some of our joint โamazingโ outcomes of the pilots:
๐delivering benefits of cooperation at regional, national & community level
๐documenting best practices
๐building climate resilience,
๐generating knowledge,
๐enhancing capacity
๐building a database for NBI Member States
In Ntungamo District, @UNDPUganda, together with @nbiweb, with support from @theGEF, commissioned and handed over a pilot Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) water system to @min_waterUg.
This nature-based solution captures excess rainwater during wet seasons and stores it underground for use during dry periods, improving water security, strengthening climate resilience, and supporting more sustainable livelihoods for communities.
