Hey there -- thanks for watching and always welcome feedback. Along with many of my colleagues, I was on Capitol Hill on Jan. 6, 2021 to cover the election certification.
Was reporting from the Cannon House Office Building before we got evacuated because of a bomb threat. We then got moved to the Longworth House Office Building and ended up getting locked in a hallway for ~4 hours as the violence played out.
I filmed injured police officers being escorted past me, lawmakers with gas masks on getting evacuated, and very stressed out law enforcement officers and (eventually) National Guard troops responding to a very chaotic scene. Outside, some of my colleagues had their camera gear destroyed by part of the mob. The morning after, I returned to the Hill and photographed some of the ~$3 million in damage done to the Capitol Building.
I then spent the rest of 2021 and much of 2022 covering the investigations into the attack and what happened both before and after it. I've interviewed numerous members of Congress, Hill staffers, and responding officers about their experiences. I've also interviewed dozens of voters across the country about their perceptions of that day, including two who were part of the broader crowd that showed up outside the Capitol.
All to say, I know a good deal about Jan. 6. I'll always be grateful I wasn't injured that day. And I'll always be thankful for the police officers who fought to re-secure the complex and allow Congress to return to session.
The commemoration of the bravery, tragedy and importance of D-Day is not ever the place to try and score cheap political points. What an ignorant and disrespectful dumbass.
NEW: A stunning new project from @lawfare's Katherine Pompilio finds that 97 Jan. 6ers who received clemency for their role in the Capitol riot then got arrested, charged, and/or convicted with subsequent crimes—a number much higher than previously reported.
Ossoff: This is what small men like Donald Trump and JD Vance and Stephen Miller will never understand—that our national greatness flows not through our blood or our genes, but through our ideas.
Americans are not a race, we're a people united not by ethnicity, but by our shared convictions, and that is what makes us exceptional
Big surprise. Dell has won a fat contract with the Department of Defense.
Trump has been buying Dell stock. Then going on the road promoting them and now coincidentally Dell wins this contract.
Oh did I mention they donated millions to Trump.
They are self-dealing in daylight and don't care who knows about it.
Meanwhile inflation is up. Wages aren't keeping up with the high costs.
But Biden…
