Happy Easter to my friends, colleagues and family. Very opportune occasion to remember the sacrifices of the Son of God Jesus Christ to redeem and save the world he dreamed of, the one where love and peace prevails, and where his Father’s Kingdom reigns.
Today marks a defining moment in Nigeria's fight against cervical cancer, as First Lady @SenRemiTinubu commits ₦1 billion (~$700K) to elimination efforts. This historic donation will accelerate the #8by8 strategy.
As co-chair of the National Taskforce with @IsaacFAdewole as chair, I learnt of Her Excellency's connection to this cause when she shared a moving story that highlighted the devastating realities of late detection and stigma that is all too common in the Global South landscape of preventable cancers.
In line with @uicc pillars, working with strong partners like Minister @SalakoIziaq@WHONigeria@WMulombo, and @NicratGov;
We're proving that local resource mobilization is possible to overcome global health challenges and current economic headwinds.

A wonderful time yesterday as I reconnected with all my colleagues during the October town hall meeting after my annual leave. We @WHONigeria had the opportunity to welcome our colleagues from the Regional Office on mission to discuss the impact of the introduction of Deputy Head of Country Office Position in three pilot countries including 🇳🇬. We also provided critical updates to all staff on strategic engagements, including our engagements with the Northern Traditional Leaders Committee #PHC delivery systems, routine immunization and polio eradication; the Association of LGA Chairmen; our support in response to flooding and other graded emergencies and humanitarian crisis. In addition we discussed outcomes of the @WHOAFRO Polio Outbreak Response Group Meeting hosted by @NphcdaNG as well as Accountability issues affecting our program delivery, including the polio program. Very cordial encounter and I would like to thank my colleagues for the openness of our discussions, and most importantly for welcoming me back warmly.
As part of the coordinated efforts to combat the #choleraoutbreak in Lagos state, @WHO has donated >30 #cholera kits to the @LSMOH. Each treatment kit provides enough medical material to treat at least hundreds of patients in the community.
