History has been made! Governor Moore and Lieutenant Governor Miller have been handed the keys to the executive branch of Maryland state government, and the entire @LobbyMD team is excited to witness what could be our state's most transformative era ever. #MDpolitics#MDGA2023
@bpsears My first session with the General Assembly. Worked for then-Minority Leader EJ Pipkin. He was lead sponsor of 50 pieces of legislation that year. Ah, the memories…
@KKinnally_MACo@byelin@msanderson_MACo Oh boy, my mind is racing with all the fun prop bets we could come up with: date of first bill's passage, number of GOP filibusters, which committee goes longest into the night...#MDGA2024
@KKinnally_MACo@msanderson_MACo Does MACo maintain a complete list of all the localities that have implemented school bus camera programs to fine people who pass illegally?
Elect yourself a Governor who looks like he could legitimately take an MLB pitcher deep...and who can also make the critical decisions necessary to run a state-level government dedicated to creating an environment in which all its constituents can flourish.
@TansillSuddath Always interesting to see who essentially votes for an unconstitutional (i.e., unbalanced) budget by rejected the BRFA after they voted to pass the budget bill. #MDpolitics#MDGA23
@TheDuckpin FYI: this is on today's JUD voting list https://t.co/R2aPH2gGHF
That's quite some influence you got there. Any other bills you plan on resurrecting in the last week of session?
@HutzellRick@BaltimoreBanner@MDcammer No longer do 695 as part of my daily commute but used it to get everywhere growing up. Never understood the "scariness" of it. Once familiar w/ the road layout, all you need is to watch out for reckless drivers. Add some following distance during rush hour and you should be fine.
@BrianGriffiths Ditto, but just barely. Although I never typed anything official on it, my parents still had a typewriter around when I was a kid, and I would play around with it--mostly to see how many of the arms I could get stuck out at once.
With a marathon 4.5 hour floor session of the MD State Senate today, it's important to remember that behind every great senator is an amazing staff that never get the recognition they deserve, especially the team at @MDSenateGOP. Hats off to you, my friends. #MDGA23#MDpolitics
@Reporterroblang Quick note: the 2.3% (actually 2.1%)/1% figures aren't how much the estimates were lowered for each year--they're how much revenues are still growing YOY despite the write-downs. Sorry, spent 6 years with Hogan's DBM, so these presentations had to become second nature to me.
@hnnhgskll@samjanesch Not going to lie--might be monitoring this AMA to help make sure everything jives with what we understand the situation to be. Got to stay on top of things for the clients.
@MDDailyRecord Hi there. I just wanted to give you a heads up that the web entry for my boss, Gerry Evans, actually contains the text for Frank Boston.
Instant fact-check of @GovWesMoore's first #StateOfTheState address. The Governor says the word service comes from the Latin word "servitium," meaning "slave." Google says: TRUE! #mdpolitics#MDGA23
In Dec, @GovLarryHogan made several non-binding "recommendations" for @GovWesMoore to include in his FY24 budget. As you can see, it seems like the general sentiment was, "Thanks, but no thanks." Anyone with a red X either needs a lobbyist or needs a better lobbyist. #MDGA2023
@MannyWelsh Manny - Nick Copper from Evans & Associates here. Been looking online for a phone number or email for you in your new position, but nothing's updated yet. Can you DM me w/ the best way to get in touch w/ you about our client's BPW situation?
@bjonesbadideas True. Always a great accomplishment. I am interested to see, however, what is getting cut through the BRFA. I think a lot of people were expecting that we wouldn’t have to submit one this year due to the surplus. The MGA website doesn’t even have a page for it yet, so **shrug**
@TansillSuddath To be fair, when I was at DBM, we were told full color was a lot more expensive than grayscale. Because we were the budget dept, I think we had a "practice what you preach" philosophy re: keeping costs down. I say "more expensive," but ultimately just a drop in the $25B bucket.
