The New England Police Benevolent Association extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon, a 31-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department and valued member of the NEPBA family.

Officer Solomon dedicated more than three decades of his life to serving the City of Worcester. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned the respect of those who served alongside him and was known as an incredibly dependable officer, colleague and friend. His loss is being felt deeply throughout the Worcester Police Department, NEPBA Local 911 and our entire Association.

Our hearts are especially with Kurt’s sons, Niklas and Brandon; his mother, Shirley; his brothers, Karl and Eric; and all those who knew and loved him as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Officer Solomon’s death remains active and ongoing, we have full confidence in the law enforcement professionals working tirelessly to determine exactly what occurred and locate the individual being sought. We ask that the public respect the investigative process and keep Kurt’s family, friends and fellow officers in their thoughts during the difficult days ahead.

Thirty-one years of service represents an extraordinary commitment to a community and to the profession of law enforcement. Officer Kurt Solomon answered that call for more than three decades, and his service, friendship and dedication will not be forgotten.

The entire NEPBA family mourns alongside our brothers and sisters of Local 911 and the Worcester Police Department.

The New England Police Benevolent Association (NEPBA) is proud to endorse David Solet for Middlesex District Attorney.

For our members throughout Middlesex County, we believe it is important to understand why NEPBA chose to support David Solet in this year’s election.

David Solet is a seasoned prosecutor with a proven record of delivering justice for victims and supporting law enforcement. As a longtime Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney and former leader of the Cold Case Homicide Unit (2019–2025), he has investigated and prosecuted complex cases, reopened long-unsolved homicides, and utilized modern tools like digital forensics and DNA to secure convictions. He was named 2025 Middlesex County Prosecutor of the Year.

At a time when communities face evolving challenges with violent crime, illegal guns, sexual assault, and dangerous offenders, NEPBA believes experienced, victim-focused leadership in the District Attorney’s office matters. Prosecuting serious crime requires courtroom judgment, investigative depth, and the courage to fix laws that leave victims behind and hinder public safety efforts.

Throughout his career, David has demonstrated that commitment. He has built strong partnerships with law enforcement, relentlessly pursued justice for families of homicide victims, and advocated for reforms such as a Crime Gun Unit to combat illegal firearms trafficking, closing loopholes for cold-case sexual assaults, and strengthening dangerousness laws to better protect communities. His work reflects a clear priority: putting victims and public safety first.

After meeting with David Solet and reviewing his record, NEPBA was impressed by his thoughtful approach to the issues that matter most to our members. His decades of prosecutorial experience, institutional knowledge, and dedication to collaboration with police provide the preparedness needed to lead the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office effectively.

At a time when law enforcement agencies face unprecedented challenges in recruitment, retention, budgeting, and public safety, NEPBA believes experience and proven leadership matter. Leading a sheriff’s office requires a proven record of operational knowledge, administrative expertise, and an understanding of the realities facing today’s law enforcement professionals.

Throughout his career, Chuck has demonstrated that leadership. Today, the New England Police Benevolent Association was honored to attend the Massachusetts State House as Governor Maura Healey signed into law the Blue Star Family License Plate legislation.

This meaningful law establishes a special Blue Star Family license plate for the parents, spouses, and children of Massachusetts law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The plates will be issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles at no cost to eligible family members, serving as a lasting tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of their loved ones.

No piece of legislation can ever replace the loss these families have endured, but it sends a powerful message that the Commonwealth will never forget the heroes who gave everything in service to their communities, or the families who continue to carry that sacrifice every day.

NEPBA extends its sincere appreciation to Governor Healey, Senator Bruce Tarr, Representative Steve Xiarhos, Representative Thomas Walsh, and everyone who worked tirelessly to make this legislation a reality.

Today was a proud day for Massachusetts law enforcement and, most importantly, for the families of our fallen heroes. 🇺🇸💙

Last week, the New England Police Benevolent Association was proud to host a political meet-and-greet on Cape Cod with State Senator Michael Rodrigues who is seeking re-election, and Chris Lambton, candidate for the First Barnstable House District.

The event provided an opportunity to discuss the issues that matter most to law enforcement professionals and the communities they serve. NEPBA values the chance to engage directly with candidates and elected officials who are willing to listen to the concerns of our members across New England.
