Our drug dog team was thrilled to win Best Drug Dog Team in this year's HMPPS National Dog Trials. Their triumph led to our colleagues Tony and Laura being featured in an episode of The One Show last month. We're incredibly proud of those involved! 🐶 🏆
We're delighted the Solan Cancer Trust has opened a charity shop located near our external coffee shop, where prisoners will learn new skills for employment.
All proceeds from the charity shop will support the vital work they do helping those affected by a cancer diagnosis.
The Senior Leadership Team had a productive business planning meeting at Cod Beck Blenders – an amazing employer working with us to provide prisoners work opportunities on release.

We have partnered with Terry Anderson, owner and coach at CrossFit All Out, to deliver training sessions focused on wellbeing, fitness, and long-term support.
These sessions help prisoners gain the skills to reduce reoffending and reintegrate successfully into their communities.

In celebration of Pride Month, we have been hosting gym games and a charity cake sale for staff. The money is being raised in support of the @Humankind_UK LGBT+ North East team, which offers support for young LGBT+ people in our community.
We recently held Pride celebrations, where our diverse workforce and prisoners came together to share stories and experiences. By helping to bolster our rehabilitative culture and sense of community, we keep our establishment a positive, productive, and safe environment.

Recently, prisoners at HMP Durham asked to raise money for charity in memory of Ronnie, an officer who sadly passed away. With the approval of Ronnie's family, prisoners have raised £550 in support of @SBRFoundation's search for new, effective ways to detect and treat cancer.
We recently worked alongside @3pillarsproject and @Falconsrugby to deliver a week-long course combining rugby and lifestyle coaching. It was an excellent example of partnership working, using rugby coaching as a gateway to trauma-informed mentoring and support.
