The President of the Northeastern State, H.E. Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye, was warmly welcomed today in Baydhabo, the capital of the South-West State.

His Excellency will tomorrow attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the South-West State, H.E. Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madobe).

The Minister of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Northeastern State of Somalia, Eng. Mohamed Dirie Farah (Shariif), held an important meeting with officials of the UN-OCHA office in Mogadishu. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two sides and accelerating efforts to address humanitarian issues.

During the meeting, the Minister shared with UN-OCHA officials a briefing on the overall situation in the Northeastern State. He particularly highlighted the priority needs in the areas of humanitarian affairs, health, education, and water. He also expressed gratitude to UN-OCHA and the Area-Based Coordination team for their ongoing collaboration and their role in supporting humanitarian efforts.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to strengthen coordination and collaboration on humanitarian efforts, with both sides underscoring the importance of sustaining this partnership to effectively address the needs of the communities in Northeastern State.

The Director General of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Northeast State Government, Hon. Maxamuud Maxamed Siciid, has officially laid the foundation stone for the start of the Water Dam construction project (Haffir Dam). The dam will be built in the districts of Xudun and Xalin, which fall under Taleex District in the Sool Region.
This project, known as the Barwaaqo Project, is funded by the World Bank. It is being implemented through a partnership between the ALIGHT organization and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
Hoodo Furniture & Construction Company is constructing the Xalin Dam, while Shire Construction Company is responsible for building the Xudun Dam.
The main objective is to address the severe water shortages faced by the local community, particularly during the harsh dry season (Jiilaal). This will be achieved by constructing a large reservoir to harvest rainwater.
The reservoir will provide a reliable and sustainable water supply for hundreds of families and their livestock.

President Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye, accompanied by Vice President Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril, chaired the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The President first briefed the Council on his recent trip to Mogadishu and the work accomplished during the visit, which he described as a productive and successful trip.

Afterwards, members of the Council of Ministers updated the President on the work and activities carried out by their respective ministries during the first half of the year, as well as the priority issues they intend to focus on during the remainder of the year.

The President urged the ministers to enhance the performance of their ministries, uphold the trust placed in them by the public, and adhere to the Constitution and the other laws of the country.

During his visit to Copenhagen, Denmark, H.E. Ali Warsama, Minister of Planning & International Cooperation of Northeastern State, met with DRC team members Adrien Bory and Matilde Tomasini.
The Minister thanked DRC for their support in refurbishing the Lasanod Hospital.
Discussions focused on further collaboration including:
Microfinance for small business startups.
Boreholes and rainwater harvesting projects (capturing dry riverbeds).
Support for education and health sectors in the Northeastern State.
Strengthening partnerships for sustainable development.

He updated them on progress establishing the new Northeastern State administration and the humanitarian challenges facing Somalia.
The Minister and MPs stressed the importance of UK support ensuring development projects and humanitarian aid effectively reach Northeastern communities - strengthening public services, stability, and long-term sustainable growth.
