Last year I was asked to give a talk on dietary #nitrate supplementation. I decided to update our last paper: https://t.co/VbjUkmksr0 for it. I found +26 trials. Here it is: https://t.co/fx8OivRrKO . No journal submission, but it has been peer-reviewed by the big guy ๐:

@Oli_Shannon Very interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Looking forward to more research in this area. Hopefully, more of these meat substitute/vegan/veg companies step up and fund research. Quorn has with promising results:

Hopefully others like @gethuel jump in
On Friday the govt announced its plan to radically change uni fees, and the headlines rightfully focussed on those 110% hikes to humanities degrees.
But now the full plan is out and the real story is clear: this is a massive defunding of tertiary education. THREAD.
@vanhatilator@ExeterSHS And I bet Prof Jones thanks his lucky stars every day (until he's replaced๐). You're 1 of the most knowledgeable and helpful people I've ever met. I visited for 6 weeks and your office light was always on when I left after 6pm so the PhD->Prof in 13 yrs is no surprise at all ๐ช
Add them to your email block lists.
A lot of these authors/publishers not only want your money but they also contain malware so it's important to check before clicking. Don't assume your virus software will save you.
Need a list of predatory or pseudoscientific publishers and journals? This is helpful:

"Elsevierโs scientific publishing arm reported profits of ยฃ724m on just over ยฃ2bn in revenue. It was a 36% margin โ higher than Apple, Google, or Amazon posted that year."
Bad for science?๐ฌit's a ยฃ19bn shakedown.

@LJJ_nutrition@Jeukendrup@bendesbrow @irwin_cg That was my first thought when I saw this. As mentioned, another study on the topic by Rogers et al. at @Griffith_Health (22 participants)

Reviewing journal articles under the guise of "giving back to science"๐ค. The novelty wears off quickly especially when Open Access Journals expect you to get it done in a week. At least buy me dinner first.
Absolutely no need for academic conferences to have a โฌ400-500 registration fee. Institutional budgets are tightening and this isnโt helping. Streamline your events.
Theyโre supposed to facilitate ideas, development, collaboration and networks, not marginalise the un(der)funded
During my first PhD meeting my supervisor @michaelleveritt mentioned the importance of knowledge translation - getting it into the hands of people/orgs that can put it to practical use. Foodworks was the aim.
As for the name...I couldn't resist๐คฃ

Our latest paper, in which we explored knowledge and beliefs about dietary nitrate in UK-based nutrition professionals, is out now: https://t.co/MJOMXeg4mk
Very excited to share the first publication from my research collaboration with @BangorUni :

Our first opportunity to use the updated nitrate/nitrite database ๐ฅ๏ธ. More changes to come as @XyrisFoodWorks and I look to improve the UI

A full-colour PDF is provided. Images get around naming confusion that arises w/ international food products. The idea was to have a list big enough without increasing participant burden. Control for nitrate/nitrite because some foods have just as much as a beetroot juice shot.
I continually see studies conducting vascular measures without dietary standardisation.Measuring dietary nitrate/nitrite intake prior to a trial is essential to control for a variable that can significantly impact results. This will help:
