The National Historical Geographic Information System provides free aggregate census data and GIS-compatible mapping files for the USA from 1790 to the present.
๐จ New Data Release! ๐จ
-> 2018-2022 ACS summary tables
-> Time series extended to include 2018-2022 ACS
-> 2022 GIS boundary files
Check it out at @ipums https://t.co/05YFWk9Tto
@rpavel12 There is not, but there is an effort underway to investigate and develop something along those lines. See the "Canadian Census Data Discovery Partnership" @MDL_UofT https://t.co/WVyayNOD33
๐ฃR #rstats users, you can now get US census tables & mapping files back to 1790 by accessing IPUMS NHGIS with ipumsr!

Announcing the arrival of the newest IPUMS family member ๐
IPUMS Contextual Determinants of Health (CDOH) provides measures of disparities, policies, and counts, by state & county, for historically marginalized populations in the US.

@SR_spatial@uscensusbureau@censusSDC For the record, this page documents NHGIS time series tables, which include harmonized 1990-2020 tract data from decennial censuses: https://t.co/Hlzmg52GBu
And this page provides NHGIS geographic crosswalks, which can be used to harmonize ACS data:

๐ Hello geographers!
In Denver for #AAG2023? Come talk data with us at the exhibit hall!
Weโll be happy to answer questions about anything @nhgis or @ipums.
@UNCPopCenter used data from @TN_SDC, based on NHGIS geographic crosswalks, to map 2010-2020 population change by census tract.
Check out the crosswalks here: https://t.co/cWkSh7fiSI

Did you do some great research using IPUMS NHGIS in 2022? Submit it to us for the IPUMS Research Awards. Deadline to submit is this Friday, Feb. 17th so don't delay. https://t.co/zGvgisgi24
@DanImmergluck You're right we don't yet have time series standardized to 2020 boundaries. What we have instead are crosswalks from 2010 blocks and block groups to 2020 units, with allocation weights you can use to generate data for 2020 tracts: https://t.co/cWkSh7fiSI
Did you use the power of IPUMS data in you research (published or unpublished) in 2022? We want to hear from you! Submit your application for the 15th Annual IPUMS Research Awards competition--deadline is Friday 17 February.

๐จ New Data Alert ๐จ
We've added all the detailed tables from the 2017-2021 ACS 5-Year Summary File at https://t.co/05YFWk9Tto. Select from 1100+ tables & get nationwide files for tracts, block groups or 85 other levels.
(Note: Our 2021 shapefiles are also coming soon!)
This monthโs most popular tweet from a #CensusSDC affiliate or member comes from @j_p_schroeder@NHGIS at Univ of Minnesota Population Center: a thread on the spatial patterns of population gains in central cities and metros. 25 RTs๐ฆ, 82 Likes๐
Interested in mapping population changes at the neighborhood level? We have lots of data to help with that!
This thread by our own @j_p_schroeder provides examples using NHGIS time series and centers of population. #poweredbyIPUMS
๐งตPopulation growth & decline in a few US metros since 1990...
First, Twin Cities. The big boom around central Minneapolis is impressive, but the outskirts still grew more. In between, it's interesting to see that more neighborhoods grew than declined.
๐จNew on NHGIS๐จ
* 2021 ACS 1-Year data: 1,300+ tables for geographic areas with 65,000+ residents
* Over 1,400 updates to the "context fields" in selected datasets, including area measures, geog coords, data suppression flags & other new context info

A huge honor for our director, Steve Ruggles! There'd be no @nhgis without @ipums, and there'd be neither without Steve.
Congrats, @HistDem! And thank you, @macfound for recognizing his foundational leadership in what we do here!
New Public Use Microdata Areas from @uscensusbureau Geography. View PUMAs here: https://t.co/ceyVsvlFJh
New PUMAs are included in 2022 vintage TIGER, to be used with 2022 v. datasets.
(Upcoming 2021 ACS still uses "2010 PUMAs")
thanks! h/t for pointing to this @charleypurvis

We've added the latest privacy-protected census demo data to NHGIS. The demo data apply versions of the 2020 disclosure avoidance system to 2010 data. We package it with the original 2010 data, so you can easily assess the impacts of added noise. https://t.co/K2EaT06D1f
๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ New data drop ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
For the eighth (and probably not final) time, we @nhgis just released data from the @uscensusbureau v2022-08-25 demonstration data product. This demo product helps users determine how the new disclosure avoidance system impacts decennial data.
