Microsoft currently has 6,000 applications in for H-1B visas. If they are downsizing by 60,000 people, then their H-1B visa numbers should be ZERO.
Watch Microsoft very carefully on this. For the US based workers, are they getting rid of Americans in favor of H-1B visa workers?
I agree. After the 60K voluntary exit offer today, there has got to be a deep dive into what is going on at Microsoft. Between the last few years of layoffs, today’s VEO, and the H-1B shenanigans, this is a deeply troubling pattern in how the company is managing its workforce.
Indian spouse took up 93% of H4 work visa, which effectively doubled India's capture of American jobs on US soil in a few years. 80% or more visa works work entry level jobs meant for American college grads. Not including OPT and visa overstays. Do we even know the diaspora size?
🚨 AMERICAN CORPORATIONS ARE FINDING A NEW WAY TO MOVE TECH JOBS OVERSEAS.
And it’s becoming a problem for Infosys.
Reuters reports that companies are increasingly building their own offshore technology centers instead of relying on traditional Indian outsourcing firms.
Infosys just cut its revenue growth forecast.
Analysts specifically identified corporate-owned offshore centers as a competitive threat.
Think about the implications.
Washington can restrict H-1B visas.
It can suspend outsourcing companies from PERM.
But American corporations can still build permanent engineering, AI and technology teams in India.
Are we protecting American jobs, or simply changing who employs the workers overseas?

UT Austin: DOL certified 170 H-1B applications from the university after Gov. Abbott ordered a freeze on new H-1B petitions at Texas public universities (Jan 27, 2026). 74 of them list new employment.
These are labor applications, not petitions, so they don't show whether the order was followed. Texas has a permission form for universities, but no public record shows who used it or what was decided.
Both are public records. They don't say anyone broke the order.
2025 job growth was revised from 1.2 million to 116,000.
A 90% haircut.
2024 got cut 44% too.
I said on Sunday that hiring is what's stalling. Turns out it stalled a lot earlier than anyone reported.
And this is us payroll- this is why I don’t trust the numbers that come out. I’m already seeing the real deal quarters before the revisions. Data is beautiful.
2026…. well I think we all know how this is going.

🚨 Companies are keeping their laid off H-1B workers on payroll so they are still in active H-1B Status.
The absolute betrayal of the Trump administration is shocking.
THE FREEZE IS REAL. LOSING A JOB NOW MEANS STAYING OUT LONGER.
The BLS numbers back this up (and we know those are fake, so this could be really bad).
1,944,000 Americans have been out of work 27 weeks or more. That is 27.1% of everyone unemployed.
In September 2022 it was 19.4%.
The median stretch out of work is now 11.5 weeks. Three years ago it was 8.1.
$MSFT offers 60,000 employees a voluntary exit.
60K Y’all!!
First time this has ever been offered at Microsoft and it will affect employees in India, The United States, Canada, and the UK at level 70 or below…
Employees find out in a few hours if they are being targeted for this.
This just makes me think that H127 layoffs sound intense. Is this a pre-layoff round?
Also makes me wonder if they changed some scheduled layoffs due to be called out by @VP. Peace offering? 🤔 Timing is just interesting.
More to come.
MICROSOFT IS ASKING EMPLOYEES IN FOUR COUNTRIES TO VOLUNTEER TO LEAVE
The Voluntary Exit Offer went out today. It covers participating teams in the US, Canada, the UK and India, at level 70 and below.
Pretty much - take it, or get laid off next round.
There’s a deep freeze paralyzing the U.S. labor market.
Unemployment is still low at 4.2%. But the share of Americans who say jobs are hard to get is at a multi-year high of about 21%, and entry-level jobs in AI-exposed fields are drying up, per WSJ
