Let’s turn ideas into action!
Joined the Deputy President H.E. @KindikiKithure for the official opening of the Nyanza International Investment Conference a pivotal platform for unlocking the economic potential of our region.
As Chairman of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), I reaffirm our commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that drive sustainable investments in agriculture, blue economy, infrastructure, tourism, and innovation. The opportunities in our region are immense, and through collaboration, we can transform them into tangible economic gains for our people.
I thank all stakeholders, investors, and development partners who are engaging in these crucial discussions. Together, we will build a prosperous and resilient Lake Region.
Kisumu County remains steadfast in its commitment to creating a favorable investment climate and ensuring that the opportunities identified during this conference translate into meaningful development for our people. Together, we are shaping a prosperous and resilient Nyanza!
Today, at the closing ceremony of the Nyanza International Investment Conference at Ciala Resort, Kisumu, we witnessed the power of strategic partnerships in attracting investments and unlocking sustainable economic growth for our region.
I extend my sincere gratitude to the Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, for presiding over this event and reaffirming the national government’s dedication to fostering investment in Nyanza. The invaluable discussions, commitments, and collaborations from this conference mark the beginning of transformative progress across key sectors such as agribusiness, the blue economy, manufacturing, and ICT.
The Government is implementing key economic transformation strategies anchored in the Kenya Kwanza Manifesto. These focus on five broad areas: job creation, revitalization of key agricultural value chains, strengthening the shilling, and enhancing economic enablers such as energy and infrastructure investment.
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) remain central to this transformation. By driving value addition across various sectors—including agriculture, manufacturing, and the blue economy—MSMEs are unlocking new economic opportunities, creating sustainable jobs, and boosting Kenya’s competitiveness. Strengthening MSMEs through targeted policies, access to affordable credit, and market linkages ensures their role as the backbone of economic growth.
Joined the @KindikiKithure Deputy President in opening the Nyanza International Conference and later engage in a panel discussion on "Rising Towards Transformation for Socioeconomic Growth and Development." The conversation centered on unlocking investment opportunities, enhancing value addition, and integrating MSMEs into key value chains—especially in fisheries, agribusiness, and renewable energy.
The blue economy remains a critical pillar in this agenda, with efforts to expand fish processing, enhance cold chain logistics, and support MSME-driven innovations in marine and freshwater industries. Investing in value addition within these sectors not only increases income for small-scale traders but also strengthens Kenya’s export potential.
Cabinet Secretaries, Governors, colleague Principal Secretaries, MPs, members of the Diplomatic Corps, private sector leaders, and other government officials were in attendance, reinforcing the shared commitment to sustainable economic transformation.
Today marked the successful conclusion of the Nyanza International Investment Conference, officially closed by the Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and MSMEs @DrOparanya. The conference provided a great platform for building partnerships, attracting investments, and strengthening economic ties.
The connections made during this event should not end here. They need to be strengthened and turned into real investments that will create jobs and improve livelihoods. Nyanza has great potential in rice farming, textiles, sunflower production, the blue economy, and industrialization. If well developed, these sectors will boost the economy and open up more opportunities for the people in the region.
A well-utilized Kisumu International Airport will play a key role in supporting these economic activities. Improving its operations will make trade easier, increase exports, and attract investors looking to explore Nyanza’s business opportunities.
On the sidelines of the conference, I had the opportunity to interact with MSMEs and visit exhibitions showcasing different innovations and businesses. These engagements highlighted the important role MSMEs play in growing the economy. By supporting entrepreneurs with the right knowledge, skills, and market opportunities, we can help them grow their businesses and contribute to economic progress.
The region has what it takes to move forward. With the right investments, policies, and teamwork, we can turn opportunities into real benefits.
