Official Twitter page of the NJ Bike & Walk Coalition. Working to make New Jersey a better place to live, with safer, more enjoyable ways to bicycle and walk.
Let's be clear. The Turnpike Authority's plan is not a safety project. It *doubles* the number of lanes to 8 with two bridges for $6.7B. Repair was the NJTA's own proposal, just $260M for 40-years of life.
Mayor @StevenFulop is right – repair not expand.

1/♾️ LOTS of people in the Heights want the piloted, paid-for, protected bike lane on Manhattan Ave. and Franklin St. We’ll show you more of them every day! 3rd pic is the sign they’re all holding. Please tell city leaders you want it too, right here: https://t.co/9SPr4kRwe1

BREAKING NEWS! The Target Zero Commission Bill (A1476) passed the Assembly floor 75/0/5 (not voting). Thank you to @RKarabinchak and all our state legislators who fought, co-sponsored and voted for this critically important bill.
.@NJTurnpike — And this is why your widening project is so deeply opposed by Jersey City and Hoboken. You're only going to dump more cars onto residential streets because there is a fundamental bottleneck at the tunnel.
@GovMurphy - expand transit not the Turnpike.
Shameful that despite the constant outcry for better @NJTRANSIT and @PATHTrain service, @GovMurphy continues to prioritize a highway widening project opposed by @StevenFulop, @RaviBhalla, @barakaras, and the majority of Essex and Hudson County residents.
@AylaSchermer@GovMurphy Car crash deaths per capita decreasing in OECD countries, increasing in US, and especially @GovMurphy's NJ https://t.co/Ru7fHWR5KJ
He is spending $20BN widening highways, has built 0 transit in 7 years. Historic policy disaster, with 1000's of violent deaths to show for it
It's a supremely walkable city but not all trips are. 30-40 minutes to walk north-to-south, esp unrealistic if you have to roundtrip. Lots of parents doing kids dropoff in cars creating double parking messes. Bikes/ebikes could make those trips a lot faster and unjam streets. /
Observation of Hoboken streets: given how safe the streets are, it's wild to me how much it culturally seems to go out of its way to avoid the answer being biking. It feels eerily missing vs Jersey City where every day biking is highly visible and has really taken off /
