Pro-housing, pro-transit, and pro-public parks & streets @betterblocksnj | Father to one eggshell plaintiff and one tortfeasor | Resident of Jersey City | LL&P
.@3_under_scores_ and I are launching @betterblocksnj — a new political advocacy group focused on working with elected leaders and candidates starting in Jersey City to:
🏘️ Build more housing
🚆 Improve mass transit
🚸 Make our streets safer
🌳 Protect our public parks

Voted just now. Although I would prefer more competition/discussion, there will be two new Commissioners that are pro-safe streets and transit in Ron Bautista and Alex Valdez. And O'Dea has been good on many of these issues over a long time. Voting let's them know we're watching.
Better Blocks did not have time to do an official endorsement this cycle (we've been focused on writing more policy pieces) but I did want to comment on @MussabAliJC versus @RobMenendez4NJ.
I voted Menendez, despite voting for his primary challenger last cycle, and here's why:
Today is primary day in New Jersey.
You can see how Congressman Rob Menendez and his primary challenger Mussab Ali stack up on issues related to housing policy, mass transit, and street safety in the NJ-08 race.
Link to their responses below:
As for Menendez, the elephant in the room is his father, but he's shown himself to be his own man.
In my dealings with him, Rep. Menendez has proven himself to have a solid grasp on transit policy and a record of delivering for his congressional district.
He earned my vote.
At the end of the day, I think primary challenges are good. I applaud Mussab for jumping into the race so voters can have a real election but I cannot vote for Ali. He doesn't have a consistent record or enough experience to meet the critical moment we're in.
.@EmMorgen and @HudCoStreets advocacy got Hudson County residents more frequent weekend PATH service.
Hudson County is studying BRT on JFK but it is up to us voters to keep up the advocacy and make sure we get fast, reliable and frequent buses in Hudson County.
Go vote!
Bus passengers are more than 70x safer per mile than car passengers. They save thousands of dollars a year. They log 30 million rides a year in Hudson County alone.
So why are we still building parking decks?
Today is election day. Read @EmMorgen' case for BRT on JFK👇
Shuttle service in Liberty State Park is BACK!
From May 23 through September 6, two shuttle buses will run on Saturdays and Sundays between 11am and 7pm.

@IvanOvalle19@TheLaurenChen Aren’t these Cornyn primary voters? It’s saying 1/3 of them would vote Talarico instead of Paxton. That’s not a terrible sign for Talarico, imo.
No, seriously, Solomon is killing a public school over $2 million/yr. and claiming it's fiscal responsibility while 1) blowing money on a bunch of new directors and deputy mayors and 2) blocking a whole slate of new development that would bring tens of millions in new ratables.
@edwarddistel That also made no sense. The hook up fees don’t have anything to do with the rate of metered water we all pay — it’s not like developers were getting a discount on usage.
He apparently thinks voters are stupid and will let him blatantly lie about stuff like that.
The Mayor Solomon NIMBY thought process:
All this development strains our schools -> cut new school project -> we can't build anything because we don't have enough schools -> all this development strains our schools!
@DanLevin_inJC@justsnakeit@necs Good thing JCPS has its own budget and can levy its own taxes to fix its own schools.
The county magnet schools are pretty good and Jersey City students deserve to have more choice because JCPS isn’t up to the task.
