On this day in 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon, becoming the first humans to step foot on another world.

As Armstrong stepped off the LM at 10:56 PM EDT, he spoke those now famous words, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Houston has been part of every step humans have taken toward the Moon. 🌕

International Moon Day celebrates the achievements that began with Apollo and continue through Artemis. For more than 50 years, Johnson Space Center has trained astronauts, built mission operations, and supported the systems that make lunar exploration possible. Today, JSC teams continue shaping missions that will return humans to the Moon and prepare us for journeys deeper into our solar system.

New York and Boston filled their streets with tall ships, fireworks, history, and millions celebrating the country we aspire to be.

Washington?

The headlines weren't about unity. They were about Trump's campaign-style rally and a masked Patriot Front march through the nation's capital.

One America celebrated our founding.

The other reminded the world how easily extremists hijack the spotlight.

That's not a coincidence.
