@erinkbutler1 As @gkuruvilla said, "it depends" (Where have I heard that before?) If the plan is the new monitor will be the only monitor, get a big one or get AppleTV and cast to your TV.. If you're using it as an extension of the macbook, get something with the same aspect ratio.

@reillyusa There’s no such thing as “netbooks” anymore. Just lightweight/budget laptops. Chromebooks are the closest thing we have for the traditional netbooks and for some reason people are still scared of them.
