@Care2much18 The university in Birmingham where I once worked still had the attendance records for Belgian refugees at this time who were having English classes.
@BiteYourBrum I love the markets and think they are amazing (we will miss them when they are swept away by the Smithfield development) but they do pack quite an olfactory wallop.
@Birmingham_81 Amazing. I once met the little boy from the opening train carriage (by then a senior police officer) and was a completely incoherent fan-boy.
@Superant_1985@pagep195 "I'll never pay more that 3 digits for a ticket." I don't go to gigs any more, but I saw an in-demand band (The Clash) in 1980 for £3.50 at mid-sized venue. Obviously there's inflation to take into account - but that works out at £15-20 these days. So what is the increase?
@James1940 Going through forgotten paper case of my late grandfather's. He was in Normandy leading flail tanks, and the case has his medals, papers (including Eisenhower's DDay letter) and this evocative pencil from France 1944. Gently nibbled.
