The #Azerbaijan and #Turkey rift continues...

[Cavid #FreeUlviyya @cavidaga]

Delegations of Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Malaysia, Indonesia and Bangladesh walk out during #Israel President Herzog’s speech at the CICA summit in Baku, #Azerbaijan.

Aliyev in an awkward situation with #Turkey due to its strategic alliance with Tel Aviv.

#Armenia PM verbally proposes enclave exchange with #Azerbaijan: Tigranashen, Verin Voskepar and Sofulu to Armenia, and Artsvashen to Azerbaijan.

Nothing official or confirmed, but Baku most likely won't agree, Aliyev is eyeing taking Tigranashen due to its strategic importance, as the main north-south highway in Armenia passes through it. Yerevan has no leverage over Baku, so Pashinyan may eventually just cede all of them to Aliyev.

#Israel president in #Azerbaijan for the CICA Summit, also meeting with president Aliyev amid criticism from Turkish society and politicians for their support for Tel Aviv as Erdogan's discourse (but only that) on Israel tightens.

Isaac Herzog @Isaac_Herzog]

I have just landed here in Azerbaijan, an important partner of Israel in our region.

I look forward to meeting with my friend @presidentaz Ilham Aliyev and participating in the CICA Summit alongside leaders from across Asia here in Baku. 🇮🇱🇦🇿

Former #Turkey PM Erbakan's son to #Azerbaijan on hijab: "Even in Armenian schools, wearing the headscarf is permitted. Regrettably, I must point out, Mr Aliyev, that not even Armenia imposes on its citizens the restrictions that you see fit to impose on your own people."

His party is an ultraconservative one, and does not have wide majority support in Turkish society, but nonetheless, joins other conservative sectors in the country criticising Aliyev's ban on headscarves.

Small rift between #Turkey and #Azerbaijan as Erodgan claims they "liberated" #NagornoKarabakh, while Aliyev two days ago stated no one helped them, they did it themselves.

Lots of social media backlash. Obviously not enough to break bilateral relations, but surprising to see this topic resurface again. Lots of individual social media users from both sides at it on this point these past few days.

#Armenia MFA posting #Iran pre-1979 flag emoji (used by pro-Shah circles) in post about upcoming official visit to the country, a very sensitive emoji to include, not the best for bilateral relations... 👇

*A few months ago, Twitter officially substituted the actual Iranian flag for that of the Reza Pahlavi-era flag.

02 October 2026 - #Azerbaijan's Aliyev "a third triumphal arch would be standing in the centre of Yerevan...if we'd been guided by emotions [during the 2020 #NagornoKarabakh war]"

During the VIII New Azerbaijan Party Congress.

Aliyev is extremely oversensitive about anything they perceive as claims against their identity or state, particularly from #Armenia, but constantly express territorial claims and cultural appropriation towards Armenia and the Armenian people.

We're working on confirming the details.
