Sarah: 'Blaming our housing crisis on immigration is absolutely wild to me.'
Robert: 'Do you not think an extra 10 million people coming into the UK is going to have an effect on housing?'
Sarah: [Confidence waning. Nervous scoff. Asks idiotic question.]
Robert: 'The more people you have in a country, the more houses you're going to need.'
Sarah:
@ZackPolanski@DarrenBar88 UK gilts are primarily owned by private financial institutions (including pension funds and insurance companies), overseas investors (like foreign governments and funds) and the Bank of England.
UK tax has gone up significantly over the last 25 years
But the tax paid by the average UK worker has not
This apparent miracle was achieved by taxing “other people”: higher earners, capital, property, banks, etc
The strategy has run out of road
A 🧵 on what happens next.
@CurtisDaly_ Of which only 265,000 are classified as long term. Ever sold a house, dealt with probate, seen a relative go into care. Please be more careful with your disingenuous comments
The bodycam footage of Henry Nowak arrest.
Feel so conflicted sharing this.
It is utterly horrific.
But I also know how much the truth matters.
Henry could barely move. He wasn’t a threat to anyone. He was repeatedly saying he couldn’t breathe. Repeatedly saying he had been stabbed…He was visually fading away.
Instead of immediate and urgent care upon seeing Henry, the response was to prioritise cuffs…because of spurious claims made by others.
How can individuals behave like that? I don’t think I’ll ever understand it.
I go to bed feeling sad tonight. I felt heartbroken for Henry’s family today, seeing them on the court steps. I now feel that tenfold.
What a world we live in. What a world😔
