Het is aan de middenmachten om het voortouw te nemen voor meer internationale samenwerking. Met als uitgangspunt dat het internationaal recht werkt voor iedereen, of voor niemand.

Ook sprak ik over de noodzaak van ambitieuze klimaatmaatregelen. De tijd van wegkijken is echt voorbij.

A Commemoration Ceremony for the Victims of Fukuoka POW Camp No. 2 was recently held at the former camp site in Nagasaki. The ceremony honoured all who perished here and reaffirmed our commitment to peace for those who never returned home and future generations.

Moving ceremony this weekend: delighted to decorate Dr Masao Tomonaga in #Nagasaki with the order of Oranje-Nassau for his great work to commemorate Dutch prisoners-of-war in WW II - leading to #reconciliation - and his achievements in nuclear #disarmament and non-proliferation.

The decoration recognizes Dr. Tomonaga’s longstanding contributions to society, including his activities bridging WWII Dutch history and reconciliation, as well as his lifelong scientific and humanitarian dedication to the anti-nuclear movement.

On Saturday, September 19, 2026, a special ceremony was held in Nagasaki City, where Dr. Masao Tomonaga was appointed “Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau”.
Ambassador Gilles Beschoor Plug @GillesBP of the Netherlands in Japan presented the decoration to Dr. Tomonaga.
