The solution to the theatrical problem is very simple. Extend the time before it goes to streaming. Make it 180 days. 6 months. If you don't watch it in theaters you won't get to see it for a long time. Studios have devalued their product by letting the consumer know there's no urgency. They're going to see it for "free" later. They've cheapened the business into a buffet and violated basic supply and demand.
If you call Film LA, the very first option is to report a production you think should be shut down for not having a permit.
The third option is to try and get a permit. If you don't get your application in my 10am a week before the shoot, they will not process your application. Not 10:05, not 12pm. Must be in by 10am. When you speak to the person at Film LA, they truly sound like they don't even want you to shoot there.
I hope whoever our next mayor is shuts down Film LA and makes it free and easy to get a permit.
LA has the best crews, the best casts, the best weather. It shouldn't be cheaper and easier to fly to Oklahoma and shoot there than it is to shoot at home. It's time to bring filmmaking back to LA.
@RhondaShear Cool. Will you be promoting any of the https://t.co/b5M18l5iST shorts? There's a short film called Cheerbleeders on there that is very good.
I checked out Ray Dennis Steckler's "The Thrill Killers" thanks to @sampanico and @Groovy_Doom. I had only seen Steckler's "Wild Guitar" before that.
It had that rare combination of a Mirror Shot AND a Zoom Shot transition. I can't think of another (but I am now on the lookout.)
Hard to believe a decade has passed without our Tall Man, Angus Scrimm. In addition to being a world-class actor and Grammy-winning author, beloved by horror fans worldwide, Angus was a kind and cherished friend to so many who were lucky enough to know him personally. Those Phantasm fans who knew him only as the sinister grave-robber from another dimension, would be surprised to learn that Angus had a delightful wit and devious sense of humor..He also loved dogs. His passing was a genuine blow ten years ago that still hurts today.
