Facilitating DDR without addressing the cause root aka the need to protect tigayans from genocidal forces is criminal to say the least.
it basically asking #Tigrayans hand your arms and let your enemies finish what they started. @Bankole_Adeoye you know better. @MikeHammerUSA
At today’s investiture of #AU service medals to the African experts serving under the AU-MVCM, I commended these gallant military men & women from 🇰🇪,🇳🇬 & 🇿🇦 for their contributions to implementing the 🇪🇹 peace agreement (#COHA), esp’ in facilitating #DDR & #humanitarian support.
Democratic socialist Melat Kiros beat U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette in a Colorado House primary, a stunning victory for the first-time candidate against a nearly 30-year incumbent.

It is now obvious that both the US and the EU fully endorse Abiy Ahmed’s position regarding Tigray. He can only interpret this alignment as an assurance that they are giving him a free hand to act as he sees fit in the North.
This is a strong statement from the US Ambassador on the deteriorating situation in Tigray and the need to restart peace talks. I wonder if it would have been more effective if it had been delivered before the US used Abiy's language of "Tigrayan hardliners" and sanctioned only one side for undermining the peace process? I wonder if the Tigrayans had purchased several billion $$ worth of Boeing airplanes if we would view them any differently today... https://t.co/2gr6M6PfZr
Congratulations to the entire #AddisStandard team.
This recognition belongs not only to those who are here today, but also to everyone who contributed to building Addis Standard over the years. Everyone who believed in the mission and carried it forward.
Most of all, it belongs to those who chose to stay and fight the good fight when the pressure was at its highest; when some of the very institutions entrusted with protecting the safety and security of citizens became sources of intimidation; when doing journalism seemed impossible, and when the easier choice would have been to simply walk away.
You stayed not because you were untouchable, but because you refused to let fear define your profession. You believed that this brand was worth the cost, that facts matter, and that the public deserves to know.
There were moments when everything seemed impossible. Yet you showed up, day after day, and kept faith in the idea that what you do matters.
This award is a recognition of that perseverance and a reflection of years of sacrifice, resilience, and quiet courage that often go unseen.
So, here I am to say thank you for holding the line. Thank you for believing. And thank you for staying.
Congratulations again on this well-deserved recognition!❤️🙌🏿🙌🏿
HRF condemns Ethiopia’s sham June 1 general elections, which crowned dictator Abiy Ahmed and his Prosperity Party with a landslide victory following an electoral process void of genuine democratic competition and discredited by opposition boycotts, political repression, the exclusion of significant parts of the electorate, and a campaigning overwhelmingly skewed in favor of the incumbent.

Head's must be spinning in Asmara. First, Washington floats the idea of ending sanctions. Now it sanctions Eritrea's Tigrayan allies. But Trump's statements on the Nile suggest an anti-Ethiopia, pro-Egypt bent. No one in Washington fully owns the Horn file and its shows.
@TiborPNagyJr@StateDept@AbiyAhmedAli@TiborPNagyJr you are repeating the same mistakes you made in 2020 by taking sides. Wish you could stay out of tigray matters for it is millions that died under your misguided policies.
@TiborPNagyJr In 2020 @StateDept under Trump emboldened @AbiyAhmedAli’s genocidal war in #Tigray leading to mass killing starvation + instability in #Ethiopia.
Once again Trump risks repeating the same mistake. We need mediation + sanctions on ALL sides fueling the conflict not just tplf

Today’s announcement underscores @POTUS’s commitment to regional peace and security by sanctioning TPLF individuals contributing to conflict and instability in the Tigray region, Ethiopia, and the Horn of Africa. The United States also welcomes the AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa Obasanjo’s efforts to work with the TPLF and Government of Ethiopia on resolving tensions and advancing peace and stability.

The @StateDept is taking steps to impose visa restrictions on members of Ethiopia’s Tigray People’s Liberation Front, as well as their immediate family members, for their involvement in undermining the resolution of the crisis in Tigray.
If I were Ethiopia, I would not sit down at any negotiating table with the US after this message:
"We're helping him [Sisi] with a little dam project...I think you were very unfairly treated by Ethiopia...And we'll be discussing the Nile because the Nile is getting a little emptier than it should be...because a damn was built by Ethiopia and its causing tremendous problems for Egypt."
US announces visa sanctions on "TPLF hardliners" for undermining peace in Ethiopia and the region. Interesting that this seems to replace any high-level diplomatic effort or visit to the region to first assess the situation and instead goes direct to sanctions. Diplomacy is dead. https://t.co/U7AEBIf5jE
The developments between Ethiopia and Tigray is very worrying. We can all be critical of political dispositions made by TPLF. But for prof. @cliona_raleigh, director of @ACLEDINFO to use the term «cancer» to describe TPLF machinations is unbecoming a scholar (36:30 in rec).
Ethiopia's election is overshadowed by tensions in the Tigray and Amhara regions, closely connected to Ethiopia’s strained relations with Eritrea and Sudan.

"Western diplomacy moved too quickly from optimism to endorsement. It mistook political performance for institutional transformation. It rewarded rhetoric before the state had built the constitutional, civic, and security safeguards necessary for a durable democratic transition." https://t.co/G7JFFPaLNW
