Some people manage their #honeybees to try to prevent swarming. Makes sense because half or more of a hive can leave in a swarm. But then they miss out on the fun of catching them. (1/5)
@zackyoungquist We’ve done some work using Defol5. Timing is R6.5, when the seeds will separate from the membrane surrounding them when opening the pod. Earlier will hurt yield and later will give less benefit.
Would Illinois soybean fields benefit from a desiccant application? Jason Carr (@NWILTDR) examines the advantages of using desiccants on Illinois soybeans and presents trial results from an experiment conducted in north-central Illinois. https://t.co/klw4IKa41z
@benjaminaustic The main difference between the mRNA shot and the RNAi technology in SmartStax PRO is that the shot causes the target organism (us) to create a foreign protein, while the RNAi technique prevents a protein from being created (in the CRW).
@benjaminaustic With RNAi, small pieces of RNA are created (by the corn plant), which bind to the naturally created mRNA in the rootworm and prevent creation of a necessary protein. This RNA created by the corn plant does nothing unless the organism ingesting it has that specific sequence.
Bean leaf beetles are being found in soybeans, damaging leaves to some extent, but the greater concern is whether they damage pods, allowing fungal growth to deteriorate quality, resulting in dockage. Stephanie Porter of @ILSoybean has advice. https://t.co/qhfFbouqeF
In a field hit hard by white mold. Plot to the right rated a 5 on a 1-9 scale. The left one got a 9. If you had a field planted with the variety to the right, you might think “wow, I’ve got a lot of disease” yet you are getting protection compared to a susceptible line.
Ever wondered where those disease resistance scores in seed guides come from? Watch this short video to learn how scientists screen soybean varieties for diseases such as phytophthora:
