@VantaBlackDev@HatsuneTku I'm allowed to have the opinion that decomps yes are obviously useful but a lot of the motivations people throw around are really dumb and not how the real world works
@VantaBlackDev@HatsuneTku even with a decomp, both the SMS and Pikmin scenes both kept using the existing C++ vtable patching because it's what they were already familiar with
@HatsuneTku@VantaBlackDev and even for some of the stuff there, you still don't need a full decomp, reverse engineering only the code you care about or at most decompiling one or two subsystems is all you need
@HatsuneTku@VantaBlackDev bud I've been doing asm hacks for Galaxy 1 and 2 since 2011, I understand the tradeoffs and still say that a full decomp is a lot of effort for the majority of mods people would want to make, I was the one who fixup'd the Red Star and Ice Flower code stubs in SMG2 back in the day
@HatsuneTku@VantaBlackDev If we're talking moving behavior into other games then yeah you need to actually understand the code but if you're just trying to modify the original game it doesn't do you much more, it makes your life easier making stuff but anyone consuming it can't tell
@VantaBlackDev@HatsuneTku You have to look it as what an end user actually sees and interacts with, like yeah Dusklight is a bit more efficient than Dolphin but is that really something you're gonna notice unless your computer is a decade old, it's the same experience
@VantaBlackDev@HatsuneTku I know this is one of my more controversial opinions but like, how is a port different? You still need the original game files, you can render in a high resolution with fancy gfx, you can do mods, if I made Dolphin auto launch as a single exe, you could not tell the difference
I didn't expect to be able to post such effective ragebait lol
The amount of y'all who didn't get the joke; I'd love it if there were more people helping with decomp, maybe I wouldn't be the only one working on TTYD
also I don't hate The Children, I've done this since I was 14
@HatsuneTku except it's literally not a port, it's matching source code for the original platform and unless you're interested in how the game works and can read code, it's of no use to you since you've been able to accomplish the same thing as a port with Dolphin for 20 years now
I love how the entire vocaloid fanbase has just kidnapped this guy into their circle just so he can make a vocal synthesizer for a genre of music he barely even knew existed like 5 days ago.
An update on dataDex - and a sneak peek of the future.
About two weeks ago, Google removed dataDex from the Play Store. The app still works on devices where it's already installed, and your data and accounts are safe.
Here's what happened, what we're doing, and what's next for dataDex:

@SciresM It's been great knowing ya, bud. If you ever wanna chat, you know where to find me, sorry we didn't talk as much as we probably could've. I hope your retirement is as restful as I can imagine it to be. I'll keep trucking on 🫡
since it seems like this platform's CTO is doing more moronic shit, reminder to y'all to find me elsewhere, I'm way more active there, I've been cooking hard this year so expect more from me soon in the new year (but not here)
Valve and Nintendo will collaborate on “absolutely nothing” later today.
There will be “no details, whatsoever” announced because, as my source puts it, “They literally aren't doing anything together. Stop messaging me.”
It remains to be seen what - if anything - this collaboration is about.
