This woman is a hero.

She rises in a room she knows is hostile. She is visibly frightened and under enormous stress, yet she forces herself to remain composed. German is not her first language, and she knows that every word will be challenged. Still, she stands her ground because the truth matters.

Her message is simple: Iran’s revolution has evolved. Four years after “Woman, Life, Freedom,” Iranians are now chanting “Javid Shah”—“Long Live the King.” She wants the voices coming from inside Iran to be heard, not the outdated narrative Omid Nouripour and Daniela Sepehri are trying to sell to a German audience.

Nouripour’s response tells the story. He chauvinistically stands over her, repeatedly interrupts her and addresses her with a combative, disrespectful arrogance. His body language is thuggish and passive-aggressive—looming over her, invading her space, gesturing dismissively and repeatedly interrupting while she struggles to remain composed. It is intimidating as hell, and the message is unmistakable: you may speak only if you repeat our approved narrative.

And this happened at @pen_berlin—of all places—an organization supposedly devoted to freedom of expression.

The German communist Left has spent years appropriating the language of democracy, diversity, feminism and human rights. But the moment an Iranian woman expresses a view that threatens its ideological narrative, the mask slips: interruption, ridicule and intimidation replace listening.

این همون چهره‌ی چپ دنیاست. تا وقتی باهاش هم‌نظر باشی، دموکراسی هست؛ ولی وقتی مردم چیزی رو بخوان که اونا نمی‌خوان، دیگه دموکراسی وجود نداره و سعی می‌کنن صدات رو سانسور کنن.

اینا هنوز می‌خوان به دنیا بفروشونن که مشکل ایران یک روسریه. نه عزیزان؛ مردم ایران آزادی می‌خوان برای تعیین کردن آینده‌ی خودشون.

مردم ایران شاهزاده رضا پهلوی رو صدا زدن و فقط ایشون رو. چون بعد از ۴۷ سال، همه فهمیدن یک اسم می‌تونه آزادی رو برای ایران بیاره و اون هم پهلویه.
