What a forlorn sight to see. Scotland's very last patch of snow from the previous winter about to expire, on Aonach Beag near Ben Nevis. We weren't sure if this or Sphinx was going to be last to disappear, so now it's settled.
In any event it doesn't matter. Scotland is about to be completely snow-free for the third consecutive year. It used to be the case, not so long ago, that one year with now snow was unusual. Two consecutive years would have been unprecedented. Three years is, in my view, very much into the realms of a fundamental change in our weather systems.

We're pleased to be supporting today's #HTNConf2024, welcoming @HTNmembers from across the UK to Dunfermline, to share experience and inspiration about community-led initiatives that ensure our built heritage is part of a thriving future.
Not a huge contribution to this pooled fund, but by literally buying-in to it, councillors have made a critical contribution to viability & credibility of this innovative and forward-looking partnership working for a fairer, greener future for the capital. (No-brainer, mind you!)
Councillors have today agreed to invest £100,000 towards the Regenerative Futures Fund (RFF), a new multi-million-pound initiative to combat poverty and inequality in Edinburgh.

This is a sensible, evidence-based answer to the perennial “how will pay you for it” question
If UK political leaders had the courage to give similar answers, I suspect we’d be in a very different place
Never mind the ONS's basket of goods & services, it's the rising price of the Star Bar's 3-course lunch deal - prominently advertised above the door - that's my inflation tracker. Was £2.50 when I moved to Glasgow, I think. Enjoyed this wee article on a Southside institution.
Located in Eglinton Toll, The Star Bar has stood the test of time, serving up Glasgow’s cheapest three-course lunch in a historic setting. We caught up with regular Tony and manager Angela for a bar-side blether...

A new dawn for children's rights
As the sun rises over Scotland, @together_sacr is flying the UN & Scotland flags from the summit of Ben Nevis to celebrate children's rights becoming law through the #UNCRCScotland Act.
Happy UNCRC Commencement Day to children across Scotland🎈
Important the National Wealth Fund doesn't nationalise the risk but privatise the profit from its 'catalytic' investments. Ensuring it shares in the upside where it materialises is essential to sustain its ability to continue investing, given the scale of transformation required.
The UK’s new Labour government must transform how the state operates to deliver on the promise of its mission-oriented industrial strategy. Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer’s mission boards are a strong signal that he understands this - but to work, they must be dynamic and empowered to design the policies, tools and institutions the missions demand.

Pity the junior hack at the P&J who has to compile the litany of shamed humanity that is the courts round-up, but at least they've got that headline for their cuttings file.
